Some people may want the joystick feel to be a little different than what CCP sets it to be. Say the movement isn't quite right or sensitive enough at a certain position, and customizing it could result in better gameplay. Leave it up to the gamers themselves.
TL/DR: watch the youtube video instead.
Here's the best thing, I do not believe anyone has a patent on what nearly all model airplane transmitters can use:
Dual Rate Exponential 3 point curve
Say you're sniping and you want to move more slowly to get greater precision after homing in, you switch your dual rates to low. Close range combat? Dual rates get left on high. Dual rates can also carry different exponential to change the feel once again. Switching to a different suit weapon? Custom stick response, and you get a better feel. You can also sometimes treat these switches as flight modes, ahem, I mean shooting modes. Let us save these stick response profiles too!
Dust has an unused legacy D-pad button, maybe allow this to be a dual rate button.
Or, just let us change the response to our liking.
I'd just breeze through this video and you should be able to get it right away, it's just some video I found explaining dual rates and expo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9vWmRncdws
I'm sure someone at CCP flies model aircraft, ask what they think. This is one of the most innovative games out there, dual rates and expo have been around for ages! What an easy way to add innovation! |

That... is actually a really amazing idea.
Ok, slight caveat with this though, how do you explain it to players? I mean, if you start throwing strange graphs at them in a game that the COD crowd are already uncomfortable with all the options, their heads will implode. If you do something like this, it will have to be simplified, at least in presentation.
There is precedence in gaming though if you look at high end gaming mice. Many have an on the fly DPI switch that significantly lowers the tracking resolution of the mouse when held or tapped so that you get better fine control for sniping. Bringing that to the world of console controllers would actually be pretty epic.
I'm all for it, so long as a way to handle it so that usability isn't compromised is figured out. |
