"To whom much is given, much is expected"
Hello all,
To get straight to the point, officer weapons need to be balanced. To give a bit of history, officer weapons have been on a slow but steady rise in volume since their introduction. Back when I played PC, pulling out a Balacs / Krins (some of the only Officer weapons) in a match was a rare sign of going all out. Now, Officer weapons seem to be more of the norm.
Officer weapons have always been balanced around rarity. They could be as overpowered as we wanted because you almost never got one through salvage. Now, with strongboxes, warbarges, and trading, they are much more widely available. In one of his forum posts, Ratatti said that he wanted to balance officer weapons be reducing how prolific they were. And while I agreed with that on principle, in practice that will mean that the richest (Read: PC corps) will buy up the majority of the weapons and have a monopoly over them.
As a result, I think that the better way to balance officer weapons is to make them "High power, High drawback" weapons. In this way, you really have to work more - not less - hard to use the weapon. Some examples might include a 2x / 3x feedback damage for laser weapons, or converting the Bons shotgun from an auto shotgun to a super high power breach shotgun.
While my suggestion are nothing more than ruminations, I do think that something needs to be done. Thoughts?

So in other word's, you want to make officer weapon's trash, remember that "balancing" is why weapon's like the assault smg suck and is why the scrambler is OP, leave them alone.
If you don't like being killed by officer weapon's, remember that make's him/her a MUCH bigger target than that Heavy going 20/0, or that scout going in for the hack on the objective.
Reducing their OPness also reduces their cost, meaning more officer weapon's will be prevalent in more game's. Meaning you're attempt to "balance them" would only be bad for NPE as soon as they exit academy.

The current officer meta in PC is complete cancer.
By far the worst meta shift I've experienced and I've been around in PC from the beginning.

To be honest, I haven't played PC in ages. So this isn't some ploy to reduce the amount of times that I get ganked by them. This thread was a response to the very real saturation of officer weapons in PC, and the fact that they were weapons with the basic balance feature of "They can be really overpowered because so few people will have them".
I agree with you that using an officer weapon makes you a bigger target than a good heavy or scout. However, that line of reasoning breaks down if you have four or five or six player - especially high level players that can afford the cost - running officer weapons. Instead, you just get a very unbalanced match where you have six "high value targets".
Furthermore, the fact that we are talking about reservations on "Reducing their [Officer weapons] OPness" is troubling, especially because the DUST we have right now is a lobby shooter which is predicated on symmetrical potential for success. If we were in a PS2 sandbox, I'd have less of a worry with officer weapons. But currently, officer weapons are too big a force multiplier. Just ask the PC players who think that PC matches should be played without the Bons shotgun - its just that powerful.
I don't think that my method of balancing the weapons should be the end all be all. But I do think that it is clear that something needs to be done about the recent proliferation of the weapons.

Getting killed much?
Mostly because you can not aim properly.
Officer compared to the ralated enourmous cost for just officer gear - have never been as ****** as they are now.
Officer are just fine as they are.
Its the whining that needs to be nerfed or the tears that needs to be harvested in to my pool where I take a naked bath and pee amongst all those tears.
Mmmm.

ISK can't be the primary balancing factor. As we can see nowadays, ISK can be very easy to come by, which throws things out of whack

You should really work on the delivery. That was a 1/10 kind of joke. At least you tried, I guess.

What do you expect with boxes and then warbarges that print the weapons? lol I am sure this was a designed factor.
Want to kill officer dudes and are willing to throw away cheap clones?
Forge em with a Quafe Forge (or militia if you are a real BOSS)
Get good with the plasma, that one hit kill potential!
Be a total bastard, damp/speed a scout and drop remotes at there feet and KABOOM! (If not possible please go to the top and start with the forge to outrange em)
This is the turning point, the rising of the tide.

There is people that have over 1000 officer weapons so to them it does not mean much loosing one. Those days are over to them. But for people that only have a few too bad. Maybe get rich, get those 20m isk paychecks and now you can afford officer weapons. That is what this game is supposed to be but the people plying this game run away from competition.
Not everyone is either as good or as honourable as you dear sir.

To regulate the officer series in this game would create a contradiction overall in it's inception. Rather than decrease the performance of Officer Weapons, also take into account of the increased rate of the Officer Suits in circulation; that grant a defensive boone on par with that of the weaponry... and use them
