If you read the description of the LP suits, they say that they are prototype variants. The CPU/PG say otherwise. The examples are at BASE.

The slot layout isn't the issue, since all Caldari Logis have the same layout now. It is a difference in CPU/PG that makes me question whether or not the description is a LIE!
Can someone link the thread explaining why and where the nerf came from? Videos online show them as being the same on CPU and PG.

I am not exactly sure why APEX suits are labeled Proto. To me an APEX suit is somewhere between a Standard Dropsuit and an Advanced Dropsuit it terms of fitting capabilities. |

All the vidoes I've seen on them, show protoype CPU/PG. I totally get why the removed the 4th armor slot, that's simple. However, my biggest question is why did they nerf the CPU/PG? Too many "cryhards"? Were the Apex suits too strong? I want to know.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I am new to running APEX suits but to my understanding they got a buff in PG/CPU when all the other suits were assigned the same slot layout. I have no knowledge of APEX suits prior to about two months ago. |

Short history of the origin of APEX
Long, long ago, in a distant land
Some time ago, different tiers of dropsuits not only had different amounts of pg/cpu, they had different amounts of slots.
Lets use the minmatar logi as an example cause its the only layout I can remember of off the top of my head.
Right now it has 4/4/4 high/low/equipment, at all tiers.
In the beforetimes, it had 2/2/3, 3/3/3, and 4/4/4 at standard, advanced, and proto respectively. And it was terrible.
When APEX was first introduced, it was a prototype blueprint in the sense that it had the prototype slot layout of 4/4/4 or whatever slot layout the other roles and races had. However, to placate our righteous rage over CCP introducing PROTO ****ING BPOs into the game, they were configured with a supposedly unmodifiable preset of standard-level modules
So it would be better than say a standard fit on a standard dropsuit with only 2/2 slots, but worse than advanced and better fits on standard dropsuits and beyond.
However, it turned out to be technically impossible to prevent us from modifying a fit, so people were trolololing the first couple days with 999/999 cpu/pg proto suit bpos stacked with whatever the hell they wanted. As a bandaid, CCP modified these suits to only have exactly enough pg/cpu to support their preset loadout on a character with no skills trained.
After CCP gave all tiers of suits the "proto" slot layout, they decided to throw apex owners a bone by unlocking the apex dropsuits for modifying, and giving them 25% more pg and cpu over the standard version of that dropsuit, placing them somewhere between a standard and advanced dropsuit, and giving me a reason to turn all of my isk and assets into more apex dropsuits. Neato. |

They might be between basic and advanced stock but everyone knows its possible to edit them now. In fact I've used Proto on my Rasetsu before and it seemed to work well.
Then I've also changed the scorchtalon knives on my Tiger as the stock ones kind of suck. I usually just leave my Shaman stock though because it has a good configuration and because I'm still a beginner at running logi.

You are a child. Are you ignorant? Take the base Cpu and PG from the Kampo and multiply by 30%. It still doesn't come close to the CPU/PG of the prototype suit. The video also had also shown the Kampo with 4, not 3, armor slots. So before you run your mouth like a member of the keyboard warrior club, do a bit of research.

It's because they used to have the Prototype slot layout, which std/adv did not have.
Since the tiers were normalized somewhat, this is no longer the case.

I thought it got the 'proto' designation because it might as well be compared to the free militia fits and other BPO suits...Besides, you have a lot of options to customize them any way you want...
On most Apex suits, you can either swap out a lot of weapons/equipment for their 'Advanced' counterparts, or a few items for 'proto' ones... |

They left them labeled as proto because Apex suits came before tiericide.
Currently you can label them as Std+ or Adv- (which I like better because it's closer to ADV). Basically proto fits with basic weapons.

APEX suits are meant to have lower PG/CPU to reduce abuse after they had editing turned on.
They are labeled proto because they had proto slot layouts at release.
The only voice for a port is the voice of reason from money drying up. More skins and 1% damage to keep Dust on PS3.

I have a shaman logi, with my pg and PC getting close to level 5 I have some good head room to change stuff around. Its nice to pub with it and not worry too much about loosing suits. I just loose the things I change on it. I change it around depending on the battle I'm in. |

They were proto because they are released before slots were normalized. So, an Assault G-I would have 3 lows and 1 high, while the gk.0 would have what all Gallente Assaults have now: 3 highs, 5 lows.
This is why they are proto. I think they also had proto fitting levels when first released, but then they are locked, then nerfed, then unlocked again.
Personally, I would've liked it better if they remained locked to give the STD BPOs an actual reason to exist: customization. But whatever. CCP. We can lunch tanks now.

I hate that apex shows as proto when you look at someone. I have to aim in because its a abundance of proto and ll I see is apex so and so. Can the tag read like APX so I know that I'm not really in for much of a challenge? The only apex suit that actually is a challenge is the dominus sentinel because that damn brick comes with 1000 bloody armour and hmg.

They were menat to be unmodifiable (sp). That was he whole drawback of having a proto bpo that you didn't have to shell out isk to stay in. Then CCP made tham modifiable (sp). There must be a drawback somewhere slse you are defeating the whole purpose of risk vs. reward with proto.

When CCP made them modifiable, there was a bit of a concern having fully Prototype BPOs running around and wrecking people. It was arguably on the "Pay to Win" level.
Therefore, along with community agreement, APEX suits CPU and PG were tuned to be just slightly underneath the stats of advanced level dropsuits, making APEX more powerful and desirable than standard suits, but making the advanced and prototype suits more desirable than APEX suits.
