Boosters are a great way to catch up in skills if you are new to the game. But which to use? Short answer is 30 day Actives. Why? Passive and Active both cost the same for same duration. Each passive is worth 12k per day (50% of base - daily log is not affected).
Passives Duration. Bonus Sp gained. Cost. Sp to Aurum ratio 3. 36,000. 2500. 14.4 7. 84,000. 5000. 16.8 30. 360,000. 14,000. 25.71
Actives make sense if your base after match sp exceeds 24,000 per day and if it is equal to that then they are equal to passives. 750,000 sp is your weekly bonus and the number I stop calculations at. If you max that in a week then you can get 375,000 extra sp from an active 7 day booster for 5000 aurum for a sp/aurum ratio of 75, which is 3 times better than a 30 day passive and around 4.5 better than a 7 day passive.
If you are max out for 4 weeks in a row the 30 day active is 107 sp/aurum with 2 days to spare.
When should you use instant? Well at 400 aurum and a matching bonus to base sp gained you want to exceed the sp/aurum of the best booster you could have. If it's worse than you are better off saving aurum for that booster. So an active 30 day is 107 sp per aurum apply math and you should only get 2x instant at 40,700 sp gained in battle. Ouch. If you use the 30 day passive as a benchmark then 10,284 sp is acceptable.
Personally I only use Actives if there is a daily quest involved and I get 10k sp. Then again, I am a whale and this game is free because of me.
Stack 30 day Actives, then 30 day Passive, then 2x instants. It is never worth it to use 4x unless money is absutely no object.
There is no evil greater than hyperbole.

Short answer: It's up to you to use the booster you want.
Active boosters are great for people who play the game and do decently to exceptionally well, in my opinion. Also, these boosters will help out people who play the game very often.
Passive boosters are great for people who don't play the game often. Depending on their skill point gain in battles, this way might also be most cost effective way to go as well. These were the boosters that I went with. When the game came out and I bought quite a lot of packs (read, all of them), I used all the Aurum I had to purchase eight 30-day Passive Omega Boosters. Since I didn't see myself playing the game for 8 months straight, these were the boosters to go for me.
Finally, the recently added Instant Boosters. This is great for a casual player who sometimes finds him or herself with an occasional battle were they did exceptionally well. They can instant boost that specific battle to increase their skill points.
TL;DR: In my opinion, Active Boosters for consistent players, Passive Boosters and Instant Boosters for casual players. Again, it's up to you to decide which boosters are right for you.

Great advice. Both posts answered it well, and to sum it up it basically is
you play everyday and do semi decently = active you play leisurely, not often and grinding, have no time, etc. = passive
