Ok, if we are putting together a Dropsuit and we go over the CPU or PG limits for the suit, we get a prompt telling us "Unable to fit this item. Insufficient PG/CPU or skills." How about instead, when you go over the PG/CPU the prompt just says "Equipping this item will exceed PG/CPU, continue? YES/NO." If we choose YES the suit would register as INVALID and show up red like a suit that needs restocked, and the CPU xxx/xxx and PG xxx/xxx under the "show info" area on the right will be red as well to help visually identify the problem.
The reason for this would be to streamline the process of fitting a suit that is close to it's PG or CPU limits. Sometimes I'll know basically what I'm trying to aim for fittings wise, but I have to squeeze and stroke the fittings of different meta levels to get in under the wire, and it would be more convenient to overshoot the CPU or PG limit and then work backwards, reducing the fittings that are less essential to the end goal rather than slowly trying to tweak upwards from the bottom. |

We do get an indicator. Look at your fitting screen. They give it to your in two places.
Look up in the right side where it says your CPU and PG. When you select a new item it goes up to what it would be with that item equipped. if it goes over, its over.
Also there is a bar on the inside of the circle of items in your fitting. It gets longer as its respective gauge gets filled. if it goes red you will not be able to equip the piece of equipment.
Between a number showing you and a big red bar how much more do we need? |

maybe I'm not being clear, but you seem to be completely missing my point. I'm saying we should be able to equip over the CPU/PG limit so we can then work backwards reducing the PG/CPU usage.
For example, let's say you buy a new weapon for a Dropsuit setup you already have, but the new weapon has a bigger CPU requirement than the old one, so when you replace the old weapon it takes you over the CPU threshold for that Dropsuit. Instead of telling you that you can't equip the weapon, it would make things smoother and easier if it went ahead and equipped it but the exceeded CPU made the suit INVALID for use until you adjusted your other fittings and brought the total below the threshold. |

Dang and since its alpha/closed beta we got no API or even App writers for fitter utilities... |

Its been some time since I dabbled in eve but there were ways to work backwards there. Usually the exceeding modules would be fit on the ship but they would be turned off. I do hope there is some api system for Dust when it launches so that we can have a Dust variant of EFT and EveMon though. |
