Up until yesterday I had never been killed by an unmanned turret installation nor had I noticed one kill someone. I have now been killed by them 3 times. I didn't even know this was possible. They seemed to always just sit there idle or rotating doing nothing and I thought that's the way it was until someone got on them. Usually when someone was controlling it, it would say "Bob (blaster Installation) killed Yummy Alcohol." In these situations it is just "Blaster Installation killed Yummy Alcohol" and it doesn't give a name on the stat page thing that pops up after dying either.

So, are there certain situations when an unmanned turret will fire? If I remember correctly at least two if not all of these occurred right after someone left the installation, due to me firing at them or someone else.

If you shoot an enemy turret or are in a vehicle it will shoot at you for a short period

Installations were far more auto-intelligent 2 years ago in this game, but even with the toning down, they are items on the map you want to be aware of.

The current behavior is this: The Installation is always tracking you when you get within its firing range. Railgun and Missile Installations are tracking only vehicles moving nearby. Blaster Installations are tracking only infantry (YOU, Yummy) moving nearby.

It may not fire at you because it couldn't rotate fast enough to aim at you before you ran by.

It may not fire at you because there were other targets nearby at the same time you were nearby, and the poor thing couldn't figure out fast enough who to shoot at first.

It may not fire at you because an enemy player was operating it, overriding its auto aiming, and the enemy player was too distracted to notice she had an opportunity to shoot at you.

But in all situations Yummy, the Installation detected you and knew you were there. If it had a clear chance to shoot at you, it would have fired. And it's aim is REALLY very good.

You're learning, Yummy. You're getting the hang of this deceptively superficial shooting game.

If it's red it will shoot you. If it's unmanned and kills you be prepared to be roasted by your squad mates.

Installations will most likely not bother you if you're not in a vehicle. However, if you accidently shoot it..... if's going to make sure you regret it. That's why I love strafing in front of blaster installations ^^

But if you don't shoot it, you'll most likely be fine if you aren't in a vehicle. You'll see a little green laser on top of the installation. That means the AI is rotating and sees no enemies. When it's red, that means it found a target and is going track it and shoot it when it gets the chance.

As I said before.... don't shoot it.
