I frequently get squad invites from people whose name I do not see listed in any of the chat channels that I am in nor do I recognize their name from recent matches. I am wondering how these people get my name and how do they know when I am online?
I am not really bothered by it but I am definitely curious. |

Prime example: Local Chat
When you type, your name appears on the list. When that happens, randoms may send you money, items, mail, and unsolicited invitations to various activities that may or may not include little boys with mics.

I rarely type anything into local chat and when I do it's usually because I for some reason am deciding to give away free ISK to who I am hoping are new people who need it.
I find myself sometimes getting squad invites within minutes of me signing on when I haven't actually done anything yet. This actually just happened which is what led me to asking about this. |

Wait.. so you all don't know?
The answer to this question is that the name of the SQUAD LEADER shows up, not the person from the squad who sent the invite.
Soo... basically you have friends trying to invite you, they arn't the squad leader though.

Another thing is that it shows the name of the squad lead, not the person that sent the invite. So it could be from someone in a channel with less than 50 people in it (I think that was the limit) or another channel that you've typed in but the squad lead isn't or it could be from someone that's got you in their last battle list but wasn't in a squad at the time.
Edit: H3X beat me to it.

Oh OK. That's good to know. I had been viewing those squad invites with a "stranger danger" mentality this entire time. |
