Not being able to shoot defeats the point of an FPS (especially the 'Shooter' part).
You really ought to be able to shoot everywhere, even loading screens. CCP really dropped the ball on this one...

Because it's a bad idea?
Sorry, couldn't help it While the concept might sound easy, I think its much more complex than it sounds.
1) Not all the redline is common to both teams, so which should be valid? You don't even see where "your" redline starts and stops, only the enemies see it.
2) Disregarding #1, it would be much easier to troll than now. Just step out of the redline and take some potshots, then retreat and heal while taunting your enemy standing only 2m away.
The best way to deal with the redline is to move it far back from the battlefield, including the initial spawn point / MCC. Then use one-way portals for infantry to jump quickly into the battlefield. Vehicles have the benefit of their speed. |

If you also make players under reps not able to shoot then why not.

Vehicles have the benefit of their speed. One thing I hate as a sniper and playing Dom is that the have made the maps playable area smaller and expanded the redline. I like being challenged by assaults and scouts with cqc weapons attacking me directly on a flank. I usually die but it is still gratifying to be such a pain players want to go out of there way to kill you. I wish they would just massively reduce the amount of redline. My favorite part was to flank enemy snipers and shoot them point blank in the head with my sniper rifle.
When I look down my scope, all I see are dead people.

If I am ever redlined with no hope of breaking out of it or if I ever redline the enemy I switch to a Plasma Cannon fit and practice my long distance PLC shots. It's pretty fun. |

Speaking of the redline, take a look at the post below to read another redline mechanic proposal.

It wouldn't work very well for all the reasons people already mentioned and more. One of the things I think of first however is an enemy team could camp your redline and kill any one who pokes their head out. On the other hand you can't fire at all till you leave. This would put the attacking team in an extreme defensive advantage as they could all be dug into cover, snipers up high etc. While your team would have to run across the open ground under fire before you could even fire back.
But yeah I think what another poster said would work best. Push back the red lines to basically the far ground spawn. Let there be a safe spot to spawn no matter what. Then put in those transport portals that are in the academy to let your teleport closer to the objective. Perhaps take another idea some one had and let the MCC fire down at ground units pushing where the old redline used to be. That way while you can go deeper into the enemy territory you risk being shot for doing so instead of the instant death of the red line mechanic now.
