Buffs? Nerfs? Are they fine?
Should we nerf scanners and buff eWAR mods?
Leave them alone and buff eWAR?
Personally, I think they are a tad strong right now, but that we should buff eWAR mods a bit and go from there. Remember, Gal Logis are the only things keeping scouts honest. Without the threat of being scanned, scouts wouldn't run the damps they need to make their fits balanced.
We don't want a return of the slayer scouts. 1.8 can rest in peace.
EDIT: All opinions are valid and are encouraged.

I would start by making scan range mods not suck. This might cut down on active scanner usage.
Second, I would examine ways to prevent scan-spamming. Tie all scanner cooldowns together or put a cap on the number of scanners per fitting. |

more like topic of the week...
the scouts are waiting in the shadows for u to nerf those scanners. :) i agree its annoying when permascanned and hunted, but thats usually coz u dont know where THEY are. once both sides have a scanner its cool. game on. also while we are on the subject, why does everyone hate my logi more than my ads? i'm pretty sure i can cover more than 200m with my scans on. ...or my armor tank, i can permascan the point in that thing 360degrees while shooting...

You guys are just fuckin' on scanners right now. I personally hate the things, but that's just my opinion. I'm just glad pubs got a squad size decrease. A six man steamroller team was too much to ******* handle.
Now, on the other hand, tanks are becoming more of a problem due to the decreased squad size keeping people from coordinating effectively to take one out.
It's happened once or twice someone couldn't pay the price, and I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals.

To be honest, scanners are fine as they are. They've already been nerfed once due to the ballerina scans and cool downs had been changed as well as the ranges of some of the lower tiered ones (if I recall correctly).
That being said, some changes to stats should be made in all honesty. There should be a CPU/PG penalty for stacking them and someone on another thread mentioned having a limited amount of scans that can be replenished through a nanohive or supply depot. I actually support this. While I don't think scanners are too OP or in a bad place at all, it's a nice compromise to get people to quit their bitching about it.
Conversely, EWAR mods definitely need a buff in a serious way. Range Amps and Precision Enhancers need a little love, as does the Profile Dampener.
I understand people's frustration with being scanned by Gal Logi's but it seems to just be another FOTM that has people over-reacting due to its higher presence in the game lately. There are many advantages/disadvantages of each suit/each module/each equipment in this game. Just because it's been getting used more often than it used to doesn't mean it needs to be nerfed, it just means you have to adapt your play style if you want to beat it.
I say this from the experience of playing a multitude of roles. Is it annoying if I do get scanned in my Scout suit? Yeah, but it doesn't happen THAT often. Do I scan with my Gal Logi? OF COURSE I do, but I only use one scanner on the fit. Regardless of being scanned by a scanner or by a scout running past you and picking you up passively, its part of the game.

I think a lot of people forget about vehicle scans, so they blame extreme over abundance on Active scanners. Usually In a match when I'm being scanned an excessive amount, I notice about two dropships among other vehicles roaming about the map with the scans.

I hardly see them on the field tbh. Unless you're talking bout PC. Cuz I don't PC.
But I think they are pretty balanced. I don't use them myself unless I get asked by squad member.

Make them active.. they don't act like active scanners. Vehicle scanners are active. When they end (pulses) it goes on cooldown. Scanner for infantry works even on cooldown.
Make it work like a vehicle scanner.

Fix 'em I says!
I think the way I'd approach it is to make them a bit like passive scans in that they have tiered scan ranges (can't think of a better way to put it) that gets weaker the further out from the scanner it gets.
Alter the "Some margin of error" message so that it appears if the scanner precision and the dropsuit's profile are within say, 10% of each other. If the difference is greater, the "Some margin of error" message does not appear.
I'm pretty happy with the state of Profile Dampeners, although I have seen some people say that Profile Dampeners should also affect how long you stay scanned for, not sure what to think about that. I think Precision and Range Extender Mods might could use a bit of a boost or some looking at though.
I don't want to nerf active scans, but they are currently far too strong and a decent number of the maps far too small for them IMO. Which is why I think an appropriate range falloff and tweaking how "Some margin of error" appears is appropriate. |

Scouts:They're broken! Remove them! We want godmode invisibility back!
Everyone else:They're fine as is.
IMHO,it's the fire and forget aspect that has most players peeved.
What if scanners were like repair tools?
While firing them you get a signal,if you pulse it you get a "snap".
This way they actually become 'active' scanners, instead of the psudo-actives they are now.
It would involve increasing their capacitor to match their maximum possible scan time though.
And no,using them wouldn't highlight you for all your enemies like scouts want.

Or we could have flux grenades temporarily knockout enemy huds and tacnets. And remove all friendly and enemy tags so pc and fw brings a bigger risk of friendly fire. Kinda like how I posted a thread on this last week but people just don't care and keep up the tears. You know. Not getting stuff done be cause we happen to be whining to loud.

What is there to coordinate .?. see a HAV take it out , see an ADS ... take it out , I don't need to talk to tom or bob about how " we're " going to approach it , take it out .
No offense but if you need to coordinate about that , it's no wonder why some just can't play without being in a squad .
I don't need to talk about anything , I'm going in to take it out .

They definitely need changed, but it doesn't have to be major.
If they simply made Scans disappear once the scanner were unequipped, that would go a long way towards making them work in a more balanced way.
@ Mee One
Active Scanner wasn't what balanced the scouts. It was major cloak nerfs and the EWAR changes. Balancing Active Scans will do nothing to change those aspects. Consequently, any changes to Active Scans will not result in Scout spam.

So Active Scanners become irrelevant simply because Shared Passive Scans are made massively OP? F*ck that...

That argument (made by Zatara at the time) was refuted by Rattati during the last Dev EWAR conversation. And rightfully so. The solution to permascan is not more permascan.
My two cents: Keep 'em potent, but make active scans active. The valuable intel they provide should be accompanied by a reasonable degree of risk and effort. |
