I'm not very good at FPSs but I really do enjoy them. I've played Eve a bunch so the lore/themes/fitting/SP aspects of Dust appeal to me. I love the idea of Dust but it is just a nightmare to play.
In BF4 on Aussie servers I can usually always manage a positive KD, averaging around 1.5. In Destiny I'm around a 0.8. In Dust I'm lucky to be a 0.2. Watching youtube videos of Dust I notice hit markers appearing instantly, but when I play there is always a big delay (feels like half a second). I've lost count of how many times I've lost all my HP after 'one' hit from a non-OHK weapon, then I see the hit direction mark, then the death screen. In the squad finder menu, 80% of the squads will have 0 bars, the rest will have 2 at most.
So, to other Australians, is this typical or do I have a particularly bad connection? How many bars do you see when you go into the squad finder? Is there any other way to check my connection to the servers? What was the gameplay like when Dust had an Australian server, and how is it different now? Is it possible that aim assist is messing me up, moving my crosshairs to where the client thinks the enemy is but the server disagrees? Should I just wait for the possibility of a more local server when the port finally comes? |

I used to be with Vodafone and their unlimited plan then I found out they were throttling and had hidden caps (check your fair use agreement) after I switched to 2degrees (not sure if you have them over the ditch) had no problems and got average of 2-3 bars in squad finder connection.
Just went into Dust to confirm the squad finder connection... http://i.imgur.com/CcPkkZk.jpg. Not great. I am with Internode who are a pretty decent ISP in Aus so I doubt it'd be them doing anything dodgy. You know any tricks for improving the PS3 connection? It's fully wired.
Jonny D Buelle wrote:Honestly, back when we had the Oceanic servers, it wasnt that great. The European and American players used it to afk farm for ISK and SP and pretty much ruined it for us. Though now we pay them back by connecting to their servers with high ping .
Heh yeah I heard stories about that. Damn Euros and Yanks messing things up for us like usual.
Jonny D Buelle wrote:At the moment, just grin and bear it, hopefully when (if) dust ports it will fix a lot of problems.
Edit: Also for your KDR, dont worry about it. This isnt BF where KDR matters, this is a game where you try your best to help your team. You cant shoot? Throw some hives down for those who can, or an uplink to bring us slayers in or bust out a rep tool to keep us alive. Find ways to help the team while you improve your gungame, but whatever you do, DONT GIVE UP.
First time around playing, I realized that without an Aussie server my gungame was going to suffer, so I went full Min Logi. Bought the APEX suit and everything. I'd signed up in Beta and by the time I actually got around to trying it out I had 20ish m SP. All of it went into Logi. So it wasn't so much the missing out on kills that was bothering me, it was being dead before I had time to react. I'm almost positive my Tacnet doesn't report reds when it should.
This time around I bought a remap and went into a bit of Amarr and Min Assault because I thought I'd play this shooter as, ya know, a shooter.
I'm sure it's wishful thinking, but I'm hoping there's some other Dusties from my side of the world that've had the same problem as me and there's a magic fix. |

300ms delay is normal for me. 0.3 seconds. It doesn't usually get better than this, only worse.
How do you put up with it? 300ms ping in an FPS is beyond unplayable.
Do you think there's any merit to the idea that aim assist makes aiming more difficult for us here due to the huge difference between client and server? |

Who is your ISP? Have you done anything to make sure you've got a good connection? |
