Good Day,
How about a variation that only scans a range of 20 to 40 db.
The idea is a scout hunting scanner. Proto/Officer Scouts and Lights with / without Dampeners could beat this. Maybe some Advanced Scouts and Lights with some help.
Anyhow the idea is to go after the lower end of the Scanning Range. Heavies, Logi's and Assaults for the most part would not show up on the scans. Now if you have a 5 in Dampening, odds are your Assaults would show up as well, it kinda hurts Proto skilled folks more than lower skilled folks, I kinda like that aspect of this idea.
I don't know if this would be Proto item or Advanced item.
I suggest a 3 or maybe 4 on the Scanner chart, if it's a 3 make it High Priced, if 4 lower the price some, in the 5000 to 10,000 range. The Focused Active Scanner is 30,915 ISK, but does everything from 20 on up. This idea stops at 40 db so half to most of the other team doesn't show up, it can't be as expensive as most Proto Scanners, the cheapest I think is 11,535 ISK.
The other scanner variables Scan Distance Scan Angle Cool-down Target Visibility Duration
Maybe make variations of these. 2 or three kinds, one that's 50 meters, 100 meters or even 25 meters.
The 25 meter one would have a short cool-down, but a wide angle. They are already inside of Logi's suits passive scanner range, might cause some panic.
Anyhow think about it.

Interesting... Crunching numbers.
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.

I'm all in favor of quicker, specialized, and more dynamic detection methods.

It's not the same idea. I was going for boosting passive range and precision and passing some of the benefits to your squad.
I was basically thinking of more a quick scan attacking/breaching or a quick short lived extra edge when defending a point.
Our ideas may be very distant cousins though. |

Good Day,
So DDX77, your idea is to have a nanohive-ish device that augments passive scans.
So in a 12 meter circle (just an example), if you (or anyone else on your team) are in range, you get a boost essentially, to your passive scanning. Interesting.
If you drop the item and it effects everyone in your squad or team, wherever they are on the map, this is really powerful.
I only see benefit, I don't see any drawbacks for the item, except I guess life of the device / effect.
At this point, the game is set. I really don't think they are going to be changing things in a major way. So if you come up with an idea, it has to be balanced, for them to consider it. Balanced, in this case, means have pluses and minuses.
- Like, I think Commando suits should get Grenades and Racial Weapon CPU / PG discounts of 5% per level. - So, this would increase the number of people using Commando Suits, but there is no limiting factor or minus to the idea. It gives all of the benefit to the Commando player. Now they may want that, but odds are it will tip a scale someplace and make Commando's too powerful.
- Something more subtle, like giving them 10% bonus to healing received, so rep tools and injectors give them 10% more health, per usage / per sec. They don't gain directly, another person has to be an active participant.
- Or Commando's + Nanohives work 10% faster and 10% more Healing / Ammo. But only other peoples Nanohives, if they drop them themselves, the Nanohive acts like normal.
Anyhow, your idea is not a bad one. I hope they consider it.
