There are skills in game already for different vehicles, but unless my understanding is faulty, they don't quite make sense. Here's how I think it should work.
The Market should not be skill restricted. Anyone should be able to purchase anything at any time. If I want to buy a tank, I should be able to.
Fitting should be skill restricted. If you don't know how to use it, you shouldn't be able to fit it.
Battlefield use should be skill restricted. If you don't know how to use it, you shouldn't be able to hop in and drive it around.
--
This solves a couple of issues:
1. People missing out on deals in the market when it becomes player based.
2. Frequent friendly stealing of vehicles (e.g. One teammate drops in their perfectly fitted and very expensive vehicle, only to have an untrained combatant on their own team steal it, run off with it, and get blown up by the first railgun turret in sight.)
3. Vehicle proliferation. A rich guy can't outfit his whole team with tanks unless his whole team actually has the skills to drive them.
4. New Eden equality. A capsuleer without skills in Caldari Battleships can't commandeer a floating evacuated (i.e. pilotless) Rokh in EVE because they can't fly it. The same should be true here.
5. Gives vehicle-based skillsets meaning.
I apologize if this has been posted or requested already.
--
EDIT: Per comments, this would not exclude others from using turrets on vehicles. |

I apologize if this has been posted or requested already. You CAN purchase anything in the market, you just can't use it until you have the skills needed to operate it.

Makes sense if your not trained for a gunlogi you shouldn't be able to drive it without skills..... You should be able to hack it tho for your team mates who maybe can drive it. |

I understand that. I intended my post to give a comprehensive paradigm from market to battlefield. What do you think about the rest of it? |

I agree. I think hacking makes sense given the current skill layout. |

Any skill restrictions should not apply to secondary turrets. I know most people don't have small missile turrets to 4, but I still put advanced missile turrets on my tank, and restricting secondary turret requirements only hinders my ability to get crew. I do think that having skill requirements to actually fit whatever it is on your own before you can hop in the driver's seat makes sense though. |

I agree with the original post entirely, but also agree that passenger slots in vehicles shouldn't carry the same restrictions. If I call in my tier 2 Gallente CRU dropship with all the fixin's, I shouldn't have to worry about it getting grabbed by some douche who sees a misplaced opportunity. But if that same douche still wants in before me, he should be able to get into any position he wants, OTHER than driver. |

I absolutely agree. I was thinking only of being able to actually pilot the vehicle. Additional turrets should be open to anyone. |

Totally agreed. I'm not trying to keep people out of the turrets, just thinking that vehicles (and the skills associated with them) should mean a little more on the battlefield. I edited my first point to reflect this important point. |

Agreed. We already (mostly) know you will be able to buy it irregardless of your skills simply based on the current beta and the way it is in Eve (and I think any other MMO for that matter).
But if you can't pilot it you can't pilot it, just allow hacking (at least until there is a hacking skill which I expect to see) it so when a teammate comes by that can pilot it they can get it faster, and as people mentioned this shouldn't restrict turret use, how complicated can they be anyway? |

this is already possible, I bought all my tanks and ffittings long before I had the skills to use them.
love this idea was going to post something similar later on. I believe that if you can use a vehicle you should not be able ot get into ti during a battle. |

But should be a button, option to abandon or call a vehicle not only for yourself but squad or even all players. |

Anything to cut back on noobies stealing ships, though I'd still like to see some kind of key code or something in order to drive it. |
