At last fanfest Ratman mentioned that he would like and might be possible to get some rather basic Ai into the game so we could have drones... hopefully ones to shoot at for target practice.....
I imagine possible PVE contracts even....
Is this something that is still being investigated, being actually worked on or now classed as not possible?
Anyone getting annoyed by reading of the above post should consider the following.
I don't care so neither should you :)

WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

Cheers man, Its one of things that in my opinion could open up more game modes and add variety even if in a limited fashion and help the game along.

This is not what you think it is. We are discussing something that was mentioned as "maybe feasible" in fanfest, a target practice setup.
NOT a full-on PvE kill drones game mode.
But I will ask about both.

Is it possible for the RatMan to build a "tutorial" level involving non-AI enemies and friendlies (dummies)?
Basically, "shoot this RedDot" "see this info (the intel box) now aim at the body and head to see the Damage difference" "revive this downed BlueDot" "hack this thing" kinda stuff?
You could even do different suit "tutorials" like "cloak up then knife this dude from behind" "RepTool the **** out of this Heavy for 10 seconds" "stand within x meters of this point and shoot everything".
This kind of thing before New Players entering the Academy would help them learn some things before they actually play the game.

Breakin, When you talk to rattati (if he replies in the positive) could you ask if the AI that applies to installations in game could be adapted to the drone?
This would also allow something slightly more than a shooting range.
Also will you actually be able to tell us any of his answers? lolNDA

Alright, straight answer time:
Drones are, unfortunately, not a thing yet because of three issues:
PS3 performance overall (something we're all familiar with)
Navigation: Turns out the Drone AI and the maps we have don't play nice together for various reasons, which I'm not going to go into. I can only give a half-ass explanation because I don't really understand AI programming.
Lastly: Time required to develop around these issues.
If the current Dev team manage some kind of breakthrough on the development of the Drones, I'm pretty sure that they will probably keep it secret from the community for about three or four minutes, tops (I may or may not be prone to exaggeration). It's the kind of thing it seems they'd get extremely excited to announce.
So currently the word is: Drones are not in the cards at this time.
If that changes I will immediately badger, annoy and generally drive people insane until they announce something.

I hope CCP can look at other games and get an idea of how maybe perhaps drones work. A great example is looking at Killzone 3.
The Dev team from Killzone 3 did a great job on dem drones to how they react and kill = the AI isn't as deadly but will do its best.
I hope the Dev team can solve its problems. Dont give up CCP. I'll buy more AUR lol
