So my laptop says: There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly
It started telling me that this morning, but it works fine for now, I have it plugged in at all times because I'm usually on it longer than the battery would normally last.
So, do I need to change the battery or not

How long does the battery last when you use it only? How old is your laptop? What brand is it?

Yeah you could buy a new one. Toshiba's battery aren't great and 3.5 years is a bit old. I've seen worse than 1h and a half tho, so if you can use your laptop normally while it's plugged you don't really need a new battery ^^

You could just remove it and plug it in directly.

Best advice I could give you is not to overcharge it and unplug it whenever you see its fully charged. Just use it plugged without the battery on it and it'll help! If you really feel like traveling and using it unplugged, and you can't live with 1h30 only, buy another one !

Yeah, don't leave it plugged up all the time. That kills the battery over time. Try using it as much as possible off of the A/C plug, but at this point its just going to prolong the battery life. It will not restore it. No need to buy a new battery until it fails and at the age of the computer the mother board, and cooling fans are probably on their last legs anyway. So, you may just be investing a new battery into a computer that probably has 18 months or so left anyway. Personally I would just try to prolong the battery until it was time to purchase a new system. |
