Enough with the silent treatment.
Weeks have gone by with essentially no communication about the current state and future direction of this game/service.
The playerbase pleads with you daily and we suffer unexplained down times and poor system performance with increasing frequency.
What is the purpose of this obviously intentional information blackout?
What could you possibly be avoiding speaking about with the small but intensely loyal customer base that waits for some word of our fate?!
This all smacks of management putting a gag order on regarding what we can expect in the near future. And why would you need to do that?
Let's consider the two most impactful possibilities:
1) you are porting DUST to another system and you don't want the info leaked before management is 'ready' - meaning your marketeers think this is a good idea for future growth through marketing- stupid
2) you are not porting DUST and want to use the remaining months of confusion and anticipation in your customers to extract more dollars before shuttering this game - skin bundles my ass

Demanding someone tell you something that runs counter to their interests seldom produces effective results.
Option 2 is the more likely option, because if they had anything to show for the last year they would have leaked something by now.
Player counts are down a lot in EvE, I doubt there is a lot of space in budgets to throw good money after bad with the track record Shanghai has currently.

Let the playerbase simmer in this new idea of a PC port. Let the hype start to ramp up then begin earnest discussion with the playerbase about the future of the game off the PS3.
But it hasn't been 1 - 6 months. It has been over. a. *******. year.
This is laughably bush league. CCP Shanghai is taking what little respect they have earned from us with hotfix alpha - Warlords 1.2 then dropping a twosy on it.
howard sanchez wrote:2) you are not porting DUST and want to use the remaining months of confusion and anticipation in your customers to extract more dollars before shuttering this game - skin bundles my ass You want to know what is really funny? If CCP had the stones to announce they were not considering a port until X date at the earliest they would probably improve their relations with us x5 over. At least they are discussing the future of this game, even if it is stuck on this last gen console.

Press, thank you for the reply
I am concerned that you could be right regarding the more likely scenario that news is not good and ccp don't want to spook the herd before they harvest all the can.
But I must respectfully disagree that silence is in CCP's best interest. Unless our worst fears are true and Ratatti & Co are remaining mute in order to dupe all of us into spending more $ on a dead game, then silence is NOT the best policy
So, which is it ccp? |

A. The game is basically AS IS.
B. I accept most problems this game has now as it has been so damn long. (Minus the framerate / lag issues as these NEED fixing really badly)
C. If I spend money on this game it is because I like this game right now, not tomorrow or next year.

They are wanting feedback about a hotfix, this means they are attempting to keep dust afloat for now. Maybe trying to get it as optimal as they can before they do port it.
Also kills, that's complete bs, blaming it on the players.
How about blaming it on the company that kept making promises to its console players for months to years about the future of dust on ps3 and how we were being introduced to new eden as a new mercenary equal to pilots then all of a sudden we are shown that in reality ccp lied to us and got us to spend $100s on a dead game to fund a port to pc which over 50% of the player base would never have access to.
That's the reason that fanfest was a big **** in our face, because ccp basically lied and tricked us unto funding a game on another platform that most of us wouldn't be on. You cannot blame that on the players.

The future of Dust is tied to Valkyrie. Just so everyone knows. Valkyrie is one of a small handful of games being released with the PS4 Morpheus( Sony's version of the Occultist Rift) Based on it's success, that will determine the fate of Dust 514. Release should be around mid to late November. That's why Dust has a nothing much more than a skeleton crew keeping it going. A no brainer for those still logging in on a regular basis. A few quick points -
Thank you for your interest and feedback in this thread. It's good to understand where the players stand on this issue.
Yes, I see what Ratatti is doing over there moving his hands about making words about hotfixes. You sheep that eat that stuff are all increasing his Jedi Mind Trick skill by multiples of 5. Fools. He's doing exactly what he's told to do - not say a damn word about a port.
DUST, as it is right now, is great. More balanced and fun than ever. I know how much Ratatti and Shanghai love this game because it is his team that have brought us to this place.
But you can't hotfix away the lag/framerate/performance issues can you? Because DUST runs great when its not running on a PS3. The platform IS THE PROBLEM with DUST.
So, thank you, Ratatti for that momentary distraction. I will play this game as long as it runs - wherever it runs....but it won't run as long as I want to play it on this platform.
Yes, CCP is committed to VR. That's great - they should be. But VR, right now, isn't profitable. It's not tested and true yet. It has promise, potential. But hasn't made a dollar yet.
DUST, on the other hand, by CCP's admission - is profitable. Businesses do not throw away profit.
So, I believe, (with all of my wisdom and insight) that DUST will be ported (if it can remain profitable through such a transition).
I want to know how long I will be able to play. I want to hear confirmation of my musings or the hard reality that this is where we live and die.
Stop, Master Ratatti, I can see what you do there. |

Firstly, they aren't really being all that quiet. You, and the rest of the community, should know by now if CCP is developing a new idea or project we won't hear of it until it's pretty much ready to be shown.
i admit it's a bad practice, but it gives CCP wiggle room and freedom to do what they want without our magnifying glass on them.
So wether or not they're going to PS4 with Dust, porting Legion instead and finally ending Dust, or plenty of other options available to them, we won't know till it's 3 months away from open beta. They speak often and what they do here, and joke with us on the forums almost once a day.
I'm almost dead certain Legion is coming to PS4, because CCP was pretty opened mouthed about the PC port of Legion until community back-lash went hostile. Las Vegas, which was supposed to flesh out Legion more, instead came with, "Well, that sucked." and we got no information.
That's pretty much a basic CCP cut-and-run ploy. i can almost guarantee you Legion was near an open beta at Fanfest 2014, there video had every mechanic in place already to play the game, it just needed a few tweaks, added UI, and a few client adjustments and that what we saw on FF2014 could of been playable.
A year and a half later - no news. It's almost a dead certainty CCP is making a PS4 FPS game at this point. Way too much production time has gone into it to be just a PC port. |
