It has been proven that having a longer list of fittings can reduce your performance in battle. Some players delete fittings before PC's to get that slight performance boost.
That means the game 'loads' all your fittings in some form during battle.
My proposal : Instead of one giant list of fittings, allow the player to customize smaller lists of specific suits.
Example: Say you have 3 fits for PC. You could choose your 'PC list' before going into PC, and the game would only be loading your list of 3 PC fits, improving your performance, also being more organized in case your fittings are all out of order.
If you do want a different fit, you will still.be able to flip through all your different lists at any time, including your 'master list' (which is your current list). Flipping to a different fitting list would probably take a few seconds to load however.
Players could also create lists for any other situations (PUBS) (Scout suits) (Prototype) (Heavies) etc.

That's a good idea and it might stop some of the lag but if it doesn't stop all of the lag you could always go to settings and turn the graphics down all the way I've found that actually helps stop most of the lag.

+1
In the fittings menu or when changing at a Depot, it would be nice to be able to change lists, no idea how possible it is to add but if we could bring up our fittings and scroll left/right to access seperate lists that would be great..
Basic / Advanced / Proto / Favourites.. or make them customizable
- As a rule, I keep about 10 fittings, unless I'm pub scrubbing so capping each list at that amount would be OK, and it reduces clutter so mercs don't have 3/4 lists of 20/30 dropsuit fittings

Another way to try to stop lag is to limit the amount of tanks players can put down on each side.

I have been playing my other two characters and both have less than 3M SP, they have very few fits and next to no inventory. I have yet to experience lag/frame rate issues except at the Gal research facility.
As a result I pared down my inventory of fits on my main. I saw a slight improvement but nowhere near as my "noob" characters.
If I had 3 or 4 pages of 10 fits each and I had to choose which set of 10 I could take into a match with the promise it would improve overall quality of the match, I'd be hard pressed to disagree with the idea if CCP decided to move in that direction.

Ideally, you'd be able to flip between lists during battle by switching 'left and right' in some manner

So basically lists would be equivalent to folders?

The only reason we need to take measures like this is because they managed to use the PS3's resources so ridiculously inefficiently. If they delete all the pointless variants of weapons and dropsuits and vehicles that are clogging up the memory we would all experience much better performance. Literally there's about 20 variants of the exact same Assault Rifle when you count all the AUR and LP and other variants. We just don't need all those.
I would like a Gallente SMG.
