For some reason this seems to be the cry of every 'vet' player these days. Don't try to hard, don't run expensive fits. If the enemy yis losing let them kill you a few times to help their ego. Let them put down uplinks and all that. Since when is trying to actually win such a crime? When did this game get so bad you have to intentionally handicap yourself and your team just to prolong a fight? Dust used to be harsh, you would die 10 or 20 times in a battle struggling to hack or counter hack an objective. Losing by clones used to be common.
Now it's all but unheard of to lose by clones in most matches, and it's not like matches are any quicker. If anything they take longer than before since objective based wins tend to go at least 15 minutes or longer. Even ambush matches quite often time out, or get close to it on some of the larger maps with less than full teams.
To me that's the biggest sign that Dust is sic and dying. When you have to start trying to lose just to play a match you know a FPS is circling the drain.
Most of the time I play alone, but quite often the whole balance of the battle hangs on if I actually try or not. One person on a team of 16 (in theory) really shouldn't have such a huge impact on the game. Yet most vet's tend to feel this way I am sure.

"try hard" isn't just about trying to win. We all know the dirty little tricks and exploits players pull. Once you start pulling those, you are a try hard. hell sometimes a reluctance to give up a percieved I win button makes you a try hard.

Do you believe anybody who is actually good at something is a "try hard"?
To me I find that calling someone a "try hard" simply because that person did well at something is a level of patheticness that I can not fathom. Besides murder, ****, etc. what aspects of life are there where it is viewed negatively for a person to try to not only do well but to be the best at something?

I'm not talking about becoming the best at something for the sake of bragging about it. I'm not even talking about becoming the best at something specific.
My comment is directed towards two things: 1) the difference between people who bust their ass and try to succeed at everything in life compared to those who halfass at everything in life, and 2) that somehow in the "video game world" the mere fact that a person tries to succeed at a game is somehow an insult in of itself. |

It's the internet. No one cares here lol. We all just troll each other and those who don't troll just get trolled twice as hard. Plus people naturally defend themselves when jealous by lashing out at those who invoked said feeling.
As far as I'm concerned if you're good at a game but you don't make money on it, you're a try hard. But it's just some random faceless opinion.

Go 100% all day every day! Play to win, play for fun, but go hard! I've gotten hate mail for driving my Lav around, dropping 3 second uplinks, killing enemy flanks with my rail gun, luring reds with fat egos away from the point so my blues can take it easier.
I love it when half the enemy team is spawning swarm launchers and are busy with me at the edge of the map while the other half of their team had to fight my entire team

It's a game which means it should start from a point of fairness (yes, that is what defines a game). Therefore, two different playstyles in the same mix is a bad game. Self editing because CCP can't do it through game mechanics is the only way to hold on to the player base. Casual and new player fun pub gaming doesn't need tryhard, leet FOTM spam gaming. There are two modes foe that - FW amd PC.

using proto scans to perma scan everything withing a 200m radius while using proto gear and being in an organized squad of capable slayers in a pub match doesn't make you a skilled player and although I do understand that sure skill matters to some degree it does not define a tryhard, however when you pair all that up against another team that can hardly field any proto gear themselves much less the scans or even passive abilities it becomes tryhard territory
especially because the ones that are capable more often then not leave the match to search for less competition to take advantage of new or poorly skilled players rather then doing PC and other such activities
if you are running late game gear you should be in the late game content PC-FW rather then stomping poor souls in pubs
I have no issue with proto gear in pubs or even tryhard tactics as I know how to counter it and I can still do decently well even in std gear but I however cannot win on my own if my team is simply not putting the effort in
it's easy to simply join up with other skilled players and dominate every single battle but to me that takes away from the fun and that's what games are supposed to be about having fun rather then just dominating and bragging about your padded KDR
I've been invited to join many squads as a solo player even squadding up with players that are in the top 20's of the leader boards and I have also fought against these same people in fact a lot of the time I get invited to their squads because they were impressed or at least acknowledged that I help my team as much as possible
you will see me leave a match if I am simply the only person on the filed doing anything even being clearly evident at the beginning of matches where I get a speed hack to help my team but they simply go of somewhere else looking for kills rather then trying to win
there are a lot of fundamental issues due to the players interpreting in game mechanisms in a way that only benefits them rather then thinking as a team player and one main issue is that people tend to look for kills rather then wins most of the time, this leads to what has been said about vets going easy on the enemy even letting them hack the point or gain some footing this isnt done so the enemy doesn't feel bad about themselves in fact it is competently the opposite they let them take a point or hack a CRU so they can get more kills instead of making them rage quit on the spot

Just play the game, no? I myself pull what I need to win. Others farm ISK to "feel better"? I don't know, it's hard for me to understand these people. I belong to the (in my opinion) best group of people. These who don't look at numbers, these who don't get mad, these who look at MCC's health, these who enjoy shooting at each other.
I think that the real problem lies in MU system. I often get the feeling that Matchmaker puts almost whole team of low MU players with one or few (very) high MU players. This leads to unbalanced battles. Do you except from one player to do everything while his teammates spend their time camping in redline turrets and driving around the map in a LAV?

yesterday we seen match after match of bluedots not trying hard or hacking letters. so we got a little pissed and picked up a few more people in the squad. as we were sitting in the warbarge we said lets go full tryhard pants and treat it like a PC. as we bum rushed the city in full officer gear you see one by one the enemy team leaves battle. even in PC we try to let the other team hack most the letters so they will stay most the match. it may be time to go back to planet side because i don't think people want to fight.
