Today, the reward system awards people WP with a 20% bonus when they perform that action near an captured objective.
Then I thought : "How about rewarding WP only near objectives (for both team) ?"
The pros are : - Red-line sniping is discouraged (no reward) - Pushing enemy back to red-line is made pointless - More defensive gameplay, letting team work being setup more easily
To develop that last point, defending team will naturally develop team-play as they gather near objective. For attacking team, they will have less pressure than defending one as they are less likely to be rushed (not rewarding) while organizing at distance from objective.
The presented scenario is obviously extreme and maybe be tuned to 20% of current WP reward away from objective and 100% of current WP reward near it, or so. You could also have progressive WP reward according to distance to objective.
To make it short, the idea is to tune the reward system to reward defensive strategy, both to solve the redline issues and to help players setting up team work.
Now I let the discussion open about cons, as this community is specialized in it. |

Players value their kd over rewards, at least the new players do.

Many that play the game , play it like they don't want to die , I see it on a regular and when I was new , no I didn't want to get killed but I wanted to earn SP's as well and I knew I couldn't do that unless I got in the fight .
New players want to have fun but their more then likely to be cautious because of just starting out and being at a disadvantage .
That to me is understood and also , when your more experienced , you have more confidence , know the maps better and your SP's lead you to do things that you wouldn't have done if you were that same fresh out of the academy new player .
If vets didn't care about kd , you wouldn't see OFC / PRO Q's in pub matches , stomping lesser players so ... to be truthful , vets care more about kd then newer players do .
If vets cared so little , they would push for an effort to fix the system , not act like there isn't a problem and keep stomping like business as usual .

Too rash as killing reds outside/not near objectives nets you nothing maybe only make WP available after you clear so much ground

The most hypocritical thing I've seen on this topic is when full proto vets attempt to preach that kd doesn't have the slightest bit of importance yet they refuse to put down their proto gear and continuously cause noobs to rage quit.
People care about their kd because kd is still used to determine the skill level of a slayer class mercenary.
Not to mention what rationally sane person would enjoy seeing the death screen 15 times in a row and not get even a single kill assist?

It doesn't matter if you add rewards for playing, people like me will still redline snipe.
I enjoy sniping because it can be a relaxing break from the typical heated firefights that tend to occur, especially in the ever popular domination mode.
Sniping is already very unrewarding. Snipers do not make a lot of warpoints, typically because a sniper doesn't use links or other support equipment to increase warpoint income. Snipers also get fewer kills and kill assists than a frontline slayer of comparable skill. On a good game a redline sniper will break a thousand warpoints, but they won't get much more than that.
Every time I decide to snipe, I understand that I will get a terrible skill point payout, and if I die once in a proto sniping fit I'm probably going to lose ISK. But I still snipe, because it is something I enjoy.
Add as many rewards for frontline players as you want. By doing so, you will not stop me, or virtually any other sniper, from redline sniping.
Sincerely, Glantix / Ice
