So I decided to use my PS3 on my HD tv today (after some time)
For those of you who know, input lag is when there is a delay from the action done for one bro appear on screen. Example- I press x to jump and it takes like a second for character to jump onscreen.
Input lag Occurs on HD tvs because the processors in the tv try to make image quality look the best possible, and that takes some time.
If you don't know how input lag affects game play, here's how.
Since there is a delay between action and display, input lag cusses you to not aim well. If your enemy moves to one direction, with input lag, it will take a sec for your reticule to move left. If the enemy starts to move side to side, they can completely avoid your fire. The enemy is at advantage because you don't know where they will go for you to aim at the same time they move, or move before.
Now I ask you a question. For those who do play with input lag, what do you do to reduce it? At least, those that have found a way.
As some of you may have seen me play, I suck when I play on HD. (I rock on old box tv with composites put) I usually stock to repping people when I use hdtv.
I wonder how many could be good players but suck because if input lag?
For those of you that wonder how people have such good aim, it's probably because they do what I do. Use an old box tv with composite input. There is ZERO input lag. That means the moment the enemy moves, you can follow them with your aim immediately.
TLDR- how do you decrease input lag when using HD tv?

Unfortunately it is the design of the TV itself. TV's use all kinds of processing to keep the image clear and blur free. As a gamer, you have to take that into consideration when you get an HDTV.
Check to see if your TV has a game mode, that helps a lot.
Lower the resolution to 480 and give that a whirl.
I dont do any of that since im casual, but lots have said it works.
It is a noticable difference though when I plug into my Gaming PC monitor. |

I recommend trying a HDMI to YPbPr converter assuming your TV has those inputs. I have found that even when compared to running through my PC then to my TV in real time there is nothing that has the latency of hooking up the PS3 directly to the TV.
This is far from my area but I believe it has to do with post processing of the PS3 signal itself. It could also have to do with the return signal which the TV is constantly sending to the PS3 eating up part of the bandwidth which the hdmi port and cable have. If nothing else try picking up a HDMI 2.0 compatible cable just to see if you notice a difference.

I have this problem. I have been killed by players I see reloading on my screen but in reality they have already turned on me and shot my face. I have a nice Samsung with a fantastic picture (no such thing as cloaked scout on my tv) but the lag is real. It's a wonder I have a positive kdr.
I've tried almost everything to correct the problem. I've reduced image quality to LOW, set my tv to GAME and even PC mode, reduced the output to 480p. It helps, but not perfectly.
I will try running it through AV with my PS1 hook ups and see how that works.

First of all, as someone mentioned , there is a option in some TV called "game mode" which reduces input lag, but on my Samsung I haven't noticed a big difference. BTW. in samsung this option is hidden away in general options, instead of picture options.
Second, when playing in 480 I think you just experience more FPS, as dust barely plays in 20 frames per second in HD (at least on my ps3). This may look like there's less input lag while there's only more FPS.
And lastly - few people posted videos from their gameplay lately (when the servers were acting up) which showed people having only few FPS - which leads me to conclusion that your FPS are (unfortunatelly) also affected by ping to dust servers or general server condition.

I haven't noticed. Everything runs smoothly on my tv, but probably is because I'm used to HD? I haven't seen anything on SD since 2010, I regret so much buying mine back then. Now a good 1080p HDTV cost like $300, which is soooo darn cheap.
What I do on mine is turn off the "true motion" thingy as I noticed from the beginning that movies started feeling fake. So everything runs at the framerate it's supposed to. I also went overkill and bought it with 120 Hz. I know useless lol.
My main problem right now is that the damn TV is too big. I like playing close to it to get a better hang of the game, but the distance from the center to the radar is too large. I think I would play better if the TV was smaller (42" I think it is). |

I own a Sylvania tv and ended up setting it and my ps3 to 720 to get better framerate. I also turned the 2 dust graphics options to low. This improved my game play.
What grinds my gears is hooking up to a 70" Sony tv. The gameplay was amazing! Wish I owned one.
