They would appear like CPM tags.
They would be based on suit useage.
Color = Role
For example my tag would be yellow and say "logi" or "logistics".
An assault users tag would be white and say "assault".
Basic would be gray.
Etc.
This being standard would allow possible AUR customizations later.
And enable CCP to receive genuine legitimate feedback from those that actually use a particular suit.
Instead of scouts and assaults posing as logis in an effort to get them nerfed for example.

What about those of us who use all four variants of say four classes routinely?
I run all four sentinels, commandos and assaults, I use two scout variants and use pretty much every weapon.
Do we get multiple tags to represent this?
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I think this would be kinda nifty, but I'd be a little disappointed having an Assault tag until I can get the SP back to become useful as a logi/scout again.

Consider myself a Scout but running other suits just as often these days. Clicking a merc and being redirected from Forums to a career stat page would be cool though. The option to "link" accounts might be needed.

This would be a cool feature, either have it so, your most played role is displayed on your icon (maybe chevron in battle)
Or that you can select from a list of roles and the fussy mercs can have an omni-role so they can feel special 
It would help Forum feedback..
eg. TheD1CK "HMG's are overpowered..needz nerfz nnaaaoooooo"
Dev, *looks at tag* Scout.. yeah well he's full of crap of course it wrecks your 300p sh!tfit ..
(It would need to be players most played roles for that to be any way effective even then, I still have an opinion A-holes!!)

Your tag would be based on frequency used.
If you used sentinels .5% more,you'd get the sentinel tag.
However AUR options could exsist to get a rainbow tag with 'omni soldier' on it.
Or unrelated tags.
Like a pink tag that says' quafe' for example.
Or even corporation tags with corporation colors and name.
Etc.
