My request is for different forms of deployable cover.
At the moment, Dust maps are pretty bear besides rocks and buildings. there are no features like boxes, large plants, fences etc. and this makes sense because the game is big enough to download already and adding tons of new assets will make it even harder to download. The Halo series also had this problem, and they overcame it in the form of deployable shields. It would improve the gameplay greatly to include forms of cover such as large and small deployable bullet shields, smoke screens, and maybe shields that can be deployed in the players hands and used in conjunction with one handed weapons. I believe features similar to this would greatly improve fire fights which are mostly just jumping about and strafing at the moment. if you agree then BUMP. |

maybe as a drop in equipment, like spawnpoints and such.
but not as something any suit can deploy, people will spam them over control points, and block hallways, i know i would. |

If it's suit deployable, it'd have to be shield based. Let's face it, something that an angry heavy can shred through isn't much use as cover though. Now orbital dropping turrets and stuff has been vaguely discussed. Granted the turrets themselves are cover as well as ordinance delivery systems, but some low walls, those anti-tank things that look like giant jacks, or something of that like I really don't see too much of a problem with as long as they're ultimately destroyable. |

I think a way to balance this would be the deployable would be an individual energy shield that you have to buy individually , but its small ; only able to cover your lower torso when crouched and the small shield will last around 2 - 4 mins before dissipating .Can't have more than 4-5 out at the same time . Some as shown here . |

The game you are speaking of is called Star Wars: The Old Republic Online. This is DUST 514. There is an abundance of cover in the game already, no need for more IMO. |

I heard somewhere that this idea is in the works already. Think in the Key notes. It would be in the form of a deployable shield. IGÇÖll look for a link. |

If i deployable shield it has to have limitations like the remote explosive does
So you can only carry a limited number of them
It has a set amount of health ie 500hp and once its down to 0 it goes away
It takes up the dropsuit item rig or whatever its called |

All this is how it would be, just like throwing down a nanohive. You would only have 2-3 on you and will have to buy them from Market. They will also take damage and be destroyed after set amount is reached. I can't say forsure that this is 100% But this is what I heard. |

If the above "heard" right, it doesn't sound bad. Not superbly abusable, but still useful for holding areas or deploying cover for your team while pushing into an area. 500 hp isn't a lot at all though, I've mowed down a heavy in 1 clip before, and most are close to 1k hp. So half a clip, your cover is gone. I'd say like 2.5k hp would be sufficient, so it would actually act as cover, but still be destructible, especially if more than 1 person is shooting at the person behind cover and inadvertently hitting the cover. To make it to where it is less abusable for blocking doorways, make it so that when its dropped (much like a nanohive) it won't deploy unless it's not obstructing a wall. |

Some of the Dusk devs need to get on Starhawk for a weekend because it does stuff like deploying shields and walls well. |

If there were deployable sheilds they should go the Battlefield 2142 route, here is a link if you never played it.

Deployable cover IS in EVE lore, but it's not an energy shield. Insta-hardening foam bombs could be used in this regard, and is mentioned as such. In this stage of beta it can simply take a certain amount of damage before vaporizing. Being an expanding foam, it would take about 2 seconds to expand and harden, until which point you can shoot clean through. Full size would probably be about 1.5 heavy-suits wide, and high enough to crouch behind. As for destroying it, probably about 1k health, with lasers/shotguns getting a dam bonus. |
