Whenever i think "shields" i think of a force field, something like the once around the figthers in Independence day.
why do I say this?
well - for starters, have somewhat of a hard time trying to figure out why I can shoot a guy sitting in a Large Hybrid Blaster installment, or something like that, with my AR or sniper, but if i use another turret to try and shoot him, the shields kick in. wich means i can't shoot him with small blaster turrets and such.
another problem is that the shield on turrets seem to surround it in a bubble, wich again leads to - you can shoot past it with handheld guns, but it will soak up bullets from blasters....
In DUST - shields soak up bullets, but in my wierdo head shields should deflekt bullets, so that they might even hit something, or someone standing close by - could something like that be done?

Shileds deflecting bullets much like Fortune in MGS2 would be nice but immensely hard and problematic to implement:
I believe we will have to wait for Unreal Engine 5 for that to happen smoothly.

Im gonna guess that the actual shield is a bit bigger than it is graphically so when you shoot someone from close range the server doesnt detect your shot 'crossing' a shield.
However when shooting from further away the opposite is true, and turrets just arent sat next to each other. |

yes - one might be temptet to belive so - but like i said above - a sniper can pick of the gunner.
I think this is gonna be somewhat of a problem if the shields are to "big"...
Last night i was sitting in a blaster turret, and could see straight to where 4-5 players where standing on a hill shooting down on my team-mates, and couldent use the damn turret for anything cos they where close to a building (wich have the same shield problem as turrets) so all my bullets where soaked up by the shield, though was aiming quiet a bit past it |

The problem is that you were sitting in a blaster turret and trying to snipe. If you sit in a railgun, you'll be able to kill another player in a turret down range, no problem. When the two players are facing each other, both the turret wall and the console they are standing at obscure nearly all of the persons body from the front. The only way to kill them like this is by hitting them with headshots, which you simply will not do in rapid succession in a blaster turret.
As for bullet deflection/ricochet ... it's an interesting thought. Maybe something to explore, but it could end up being very taxing for the servers. |

Interesting, but impractical. Most games can't even properly simulate bullet drop and other physics artifacts. Calculating ricochet would require massive resources for results that most people wouldn't even notice. (At least until they get killed by a random headshot from around a corner and start calling the waaambulance.) |

I understand this - but still fail to se why i should have a problem hitting a player that is close enough that i am pretty sure to hit, but wont be able to due to the fact that a nearby building's shild will come in the way
as before mentionet, I have multiple times seen the turret aim way of a building - and still ppl are pretty much safe cos the bullets can't get past the shield (NB - way of is 1-2 meters to right or left of a building) |

this is not true, I have killed many people in my tank with a blaster turret who was using a blaster turret to shoot me. I have done it many many times so you can still take individual damage when in a turret just like with handheld weapons, not sure if it was the angle you where shooting them or what.

The problem is that you think these shields have to be round or oval and projected out from the center of the object. In eve they have always appeared as effects just slightly away from all the surfaces of the ships.
POS's have a force field which is a bubble around it, but it's not a shield.
