Cheers for the confidence guys, congratulations to our new members and commiserations to those unsuccessful this year.
Dust 514 has had a better year during my term in CPM 1, making our role a little easier to fulfil. This is almost entirely due to the changes first put in place by CCP Rouge by placing CCP Rattati in charge of the game. Then with that done, the changes of working practices and culture that Rattati fostered with the Dust Team.
This allowed the team to produce more with less resources and time to do it.
CPM1 has been witness to these changes and seen the confidence level of the Shanghai team increase with every patch so far in our term.
CPM2 is going to be a pivotal council in the history of Dust 514. The PS3 is expected to reach its end of life in the next 12 months, so it's a reasonable expection by the community that news in this regard is communicated as quickly as is allowed. On top of this, feedback from the CPM is going to be instrumental in the development of he games future so as to ensure that mistakes from the games last are not repeated.
Once the new NDA's are signed, myself and Cross as incumbents will get them up to speed as quickly as possible so that CPM 2 can hit the ground running.

Aeon Amadi should make a great CPM member if he can keep his anger issues under control.
I did not vote for Sgt Kirk, but I seriously considered it. I even said I would back him fro CPM3 if he kept up through the year the way he has been recently. So I am not at all disappointed to see him get in. If he maintains the maturity he has been displaying over the last six months, then he should be a fine council member.
All the rest I voted for.

It is interesting that Kevall Longstride missed out on being a proclaimed winner in the first round by just 1 vote. As a result it looks like each round people just kept dropping off the bottom and the top 7 stayed the same.

Looks like she had the Spanish vote, but as she is from the US she probably speaks English well enough to do the job. It would have been handy to have a Spanish speaker on the CPM. I hope she is a little more active on the English forums this year. I would like to get to know her before the CPM3 election.

Goes to show you that if you can convinces your friends/corp/etc in game to vote for you, you can get on the cpm, active on the forums or not. As with any politics, who you know is important.

My votes probably came mostly came from people I know in game and some in the Spanish speaking community that I do not know. I have a lot of friends who speak Spanish and am in Smart Deploy with a lot of Spanish speaking corps. Before being in AoD, I was a part of Rise of Legion, so I also have a lot of connections in that alliance as well. I am willing to chat with you more about my connections to the Spanish speaking community some time. ^_^
It is very true, I spend a lot of time in game and not much on the forums. |

I sent you an in game mail from my EVE account earlier. (I can access EVE mail through a browser. Wish we had that for DUST.) I was wondering if you could check out the Novatos Espa+¦o chat channel and let me know if they are helping new players they way they are supposed to? I had a Director in my Corp from Peru who set it up, but he does not seem to be playing anymore and I have no one who speaks Spanish to supervise the channel and keep it on track.

I am just logging into Dust now and will check it out. Also, you can send my Eve toon, Bonita Amors, mail as well. I don't play Eve often, but I agree, it is really nice being able to access Eve mail on my phone. It would be great to have that option for Dust! |

So I did some analysis on the vote data and two things popped out:
First:
Pokey was an incredibly popular 3rd or 4th place vote, but largely on ballets locked down by eventual CPM2 winners in the 1st slot. Breakin and Cross in particular beat Pokey to a lot of ballots.
The other side of that coin is he was moderately uncommon on losing ballots, so few of the transferable votes went to him.
People who really dug-in to the election and researched the candidates love Pokey! ...but not quite as much as another candidate. And among players who were just logging-in to vote for their friends or CEO, he seemed to have little traction.
Even though STV is supposed to lessen the problem of good candidates who might not have the most hard-run campaigns getting missed, there are situations where STV can fail to bring them into the fold, and it looks like we just witnessed one.
Second:
The claim of "thousands of votes cast" seems to be based on each candidate on a cast ballot counting as a "vote".
The actual number of people who voted seems to be in the high hundreds.
The number of votes provided by the counting program is "910", but doing a line count of the raw vote data yields a number of "740". Not sure what the discrepancy is due to. Regardless, it seems the voting body hasn't grown as much as we thought it did. That said though, given how many filled out the full seven slots and judging by the spirited discussions that happen on the boards regarding the CPM, we can at least surmise the voting part of the player base is passionate.

The total number of accounts that voted was 910. Slightly down on last year but stable enough to demonstrate a player base of at least the same numbers as a year ago.
What is gratifying however is the number of votes cast was significantly higher due to the vast majority of voters picking 7 candidates in preferential order. Last year a full third of the electorate just voted for one candidate, therefore denying a lot of great candidates a chance to be elected.
Part of the problem is the online participation outside of the game is very low. It's no coincidence that the number of voters is not dissimilar to the number of active forum users here.
Should the game make it to an x86 based format, there is the possibility of being able to either vote within the game itself or a linkable browser from it. This is something I'll be pushing for should we get the chance.
