So I started playing after a long break. I was looking at the Caldari Scout for a good change of pace from my comfort zone (assault suits). My gun-game is bad, so I've been trying other things to score WP while I get gud. So I tried the Cloak Field but didn't liked it much. Besides using it to run away, I really can't figure any other effective use, at least with my weapon. I chose the Assault Rail Rifle since it's got good hipfire accuracy, excellent for close-quarters combat. I still get owned most of the times in 1vs1 though. I'm not gonna use the shotgun because it's the most obvious choice for a scout, yeah I'm a hipster.
Also the Cloak Field doesn't get me WP, and it's CPU/PG heavy. So instead I chose to take advantage of my speed and low profile to drop uplinks. I like being the first to go to the nearest letter and start commanding my teammates to take the letter by drop uplinks. The WP flow is awesome. For my other equipment I chose the Nanite Injector. Again, take advantage of the speed to revive teammates asap. Do you guys think these are great equipment for a scout, or should I focus on getting that Cloak Field to work? Also should I even use a sidearm? If so, which one is a good complement for the ARR? |

The cloak is pointless imo. Too much fitting space and too many drawbacks. Its not for combat, and this is a combat game, I don't use it. The assault rail is good, and hipster or not, knives or shotguns are excellent for scouts. You're not meant to have prolonged survivability in a 1v1 cqc, and that's the way it should be. The whole point is to flank, hit as hard as you can, and move. Uplinks are great for wp, and nanites are a good backup because they're infinite usage, but also require you to be close to the action. Remote explosives are another option, but tbh I recommend working as hard as you can on your scouting, and ambushing tactics rather than trying to fall back on eq. It sucks to suck I'm aware, but that will drive you to polish up and get out of that ditch faster. Engagement ranges, keeping cover nearby, flanking, situational awareness, all these things you really want to practice. Best of luck, see you around! o7

Uplinks on a scout, always. Second eq.. RE to get kills, rep tool to farm easy wp, needle to help your team. Cloak to get the safety feeling.`

Cloak is only effective for the stealthy parts well to a certain degree. Use it to move from position to position, hacking it comes in handy and you already know the escape function. You will need your damping skill maxed / have a damp mod on your suit its very easy to spot a cloaked scout also if your using it to set up your engagement remember there's a long delay when switching to any thing else, so be careful. Yes the fitting on it is pretty hefty I wouldn't use a cloak unless you have your suit skill max for the reduction but of course you should take the opportunity while skilling it up to learn how to get around without one you'll be using the same tactics and routs for the most part with or with out a cloak its just a bit easer to get over looked by your enemies.
shot guns and knives are extremely useful on a scout suit there hit and run tactics strongly depend on a high alpha strike but of course there are other weapons that can work well with the right set up for example plasma canons and scrambler rifle pack a pretty strong alpha I've seen them used to great effect. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I've been using the uplinks with great success, but I very rarely use the Nanite Injector. I think it would be better to use just 1 equipment. Thinking about the Active Scanner, though I feel it would be better if I just lower my scan precision a bit more (currently 37 dB). I run ADV suit anyway, this is my current loadout for the Caldari Scout:
Complex Myofibril Stimulant 2 Complex Shield Extenders (finally a scout with shields!) Basic Shield Extender (not enough CPU/PG, probably should change it for a precision enhancer) Basic Shield Regulator (thinking it should be a codebreaker) Basic Profile Dampener (25 dB atm)
ADV ARR (I have more success with the vanilla RR though, but I want to have a solid CQC weapon that isn't a shotgun) Toxin SMG (not really sure what to put here, I have full Flaylock specialization but it's too CPU heavy ) ADV Drop Uplinks Basic Nanite Injector |
