Even just a contracts page with a list of stuff for sale with a given price or something.
This is one of the best parts of EVE online, it's universally acknowledged as being great. Is it not time we brought that greatness to DUST?
Or is that way too much for this game now?

The current "Send Item" system we have is what CCP was capable of giving us on a shoestring budget.

Not at all, please speak your mind.
Yes I too had thought the same but then I cant help but think that something like a trade page / trade market might be something of a possibility?
I know Rattati and crew are limited both in terms of finances and manpower but they seem to be very good with the more UI based elements. I know its a long shot but I just feel like this is one area CCP has always excelled at. Like really better than anyone else in the industry. I'm disappointed they can't bring that same expertise to DUST.

I'm disappointed they can't bring that same expertise to DUST. What it comes down to is Return on Investment. I'm sure that CCP Shanghai could bang out a Contract-like system for Dust 514, given enough time. But when they compare the amount of time invested to say, Simple Crafting, is it worth the time when Simple Trading is mostly working?
I'm going to over-exaggerate to illustrate what I mean...
Pretend it takes a month to refine and improve the trading UI enough to allow dual opt-in trades. That's when a trade window opens, both parties drop in an item, both click 'I agree' then the items trade hands. Cool right?
Now imagine they could have spent that month working on all the new features listed in Warlords 1.3.
Simple trading is doing the job well enough for Rattati. Maybe one day he will iterate on the idea, but I don't think we should look for him to do so during the Warlords era.
Side note: going to be a downer for a second... if we don't get a port of some kind before 2015 comes to a close I'm not certain we will see another expansion for Dust.

While a contract system seems very complex, I think a public market system should be easy enough.
Select some ARs you picked up, go to "Sell item", accept suggested price derived from the current market price or put in your own one, click "Sell". The item goes off to the NPC trader until it is sold. A popup tells you so.
Somebody opens up their market tab, selects ARs, sees the very attractive price you offered and buys a couple. You receive money. 5% go to the NPC trader.
There's some math to work out when the buyer wants more items than you offered, but it's not rocket science.
However, it will take a while to implement and validate the code. Especially because we can't assist the QA team like the capsuleers can on the test servers. Also, for a while it'd totally crash the market. I suggest starting with a much higher NPC trader tax so the market isn't flooded with cheap offers. |
