I think it should be clear by now that humans can't handle losing stuff in video games. |

So Legion? Lol no
If ppl can't handle that in Dust, arguably a very fun factor for me, then they are playing the wrong game. Comprimising s game's core feature to pander to audiences should never be a thing, and I quite frankly can't atand when people suggest that.

I think much of it is in the delivery.
Even in the academy, when people are just trying out stuff, it is quite possible to run ISK negative, or at least getting the impression of doing so.
It's quite easy to configure a suit worth 15k ISK with a minimum SP requirement. And it is quite easy to receive less than 100k ISK from a lost academy match. If you die more than 6 times you'll be losing ISK at that rate. On the first day of playing Dust. (The daily missions do add some additional profit, but that is never displayed anywhere except as a line in the wallet, so nobody notices!)
Dust's payout scheme is really only suited to hardcore players. You can earn a very large amount of ISK by playing right, but you can equally bankrupt yourself easily by doing the wrong thing. That is a good thing when you're heavily invested in the game and know how it works - you run the risk and you earn the profit - but it's not something we should confront our new players with during the first week.
I think the payout scheme is a very good topic for improvement in Dust. Be it academy, pubs, FW or PC, all of these could use an update. |

I imagine he's despairing over how people barely bother fighting in DUST a lot of the time.

Yes, this
I don't care about my ISK, I like the game and the teamplay. Dust sucks because of the hoarders. |

Without asset loss, what really seperates this from any other shooter (aside from being mechanically subpar)?

And so you'd rather take out the risk aspect? How about just buffing payouts so mercs that try are rewarded? The issue now is hoarders get just as much for doing nothing as for those dieing 20 times. Remember that glitch for Uprising 1.9 where payouts were. Mil or more depending on match warpoints? Halve that, but make it scaling. Boosters are going to boost regardless, have a seperate fix for that.
Or when this game is ported, sinply start everyone at zero isk but they can take assets with them so those with money can stock up or something. I gtg back to work but I dislike this approach

Taking away the risk reward element of the game created by item impermanence is the wrong way to handle this.
An approach that recognizes time in conflict zones (near actual enemies), so accrued, kills deaths and so on and provides more rewards to players who look more involved is muchore reasonable. The trick is making sure it scales in a way that supports vets and new players alike.
Now with more evil.

you can already play dust with zero asset loss. everybody has starter Mlt BPOs, or can use APEX suits for LP, or purchase blueprints, or run the loadouts given for free.

I don't think we should do away with asset loss, but the risk/reward ratio is so skewed that games are either extremely boring or extremely frustrating. Most people who actually attempt trying quit after a few deaths. |
