Has anyone got any tips for grinding ISK and sustaining the use of proto equipment? I have recently lvl 5'd into quite a few things and i am not quite sure on how to fund them. People like saxonmish always baffle me when they run proto everything pretty much all the time. I have lvl5 Galscout, CR (prof. 3), NK's, Kincats and a few other things and i thik that I could make a pretty neat Scout fit but i just don't have much ISK to fund this. Thanks in advance |

sell everything you dont need or use, run pubs with std gear to grind isk
dont die and you wont have to worry about losing isk
you shouldn't be running proto gear in pubs if you are afraid to lose it to be honest
PC is the Proto environment join up on a PC corp and make sure to get involved depending on how well your corp does or your team if you are squading with another corp you can get paid over 1mill per battle but you have to make sure you kill enough of them to go positive, everyone on the team gets paid the same amount so just as long as you do what you're supposed to and don't die very often you should be making a profit
guys like saxon on a mish make isk from corp and trough other means a lot of the youtubers are CEO's of corps or at least are involved with them and do PC regularly
If you've even seen a proto player go 10/3 they probably lost a good amount of isk unless they got over 3k wp and on average they tend to not die as much and can rely on squad mates to pick them up if they do go down
I take it upon myself to hunt down proto suit users in pubs because if you are using expensive gear and I kill you a few times my reward at the end will be better, so keep that in mind you are a target for players like myself not only because you are a juicy isk farm but also due to the nature of proto gear being a crutch in pubs most of the time
so if you do want to use proto gear in pubs then make sure to take down as many proto suit users as you can to balance out any loses you take and try to get as many WP as you can being on top of the EOM screen means you get better rewards

Also people running proto a lot of the time consistently are usually not alone. They're in proto teams where all of them are together for full force and consistent pickups. If you're solo-ing a lot of the time, you shouldn't expect to run proto at a level others are able to and seemingly easily afford to do so.
As for money, run about 3-4 ambushes in a free frontline suit and you'll net about 1 mil ISK. It's the fastest profit burn for your time. It won't be fun but lots of people suffer that grind so they can get back to the good stuff.

Hello, Shinobi.
GǪ. And sorry to say, it sounds as if you've travelled down the same "trap" road that many of your fellow players (and many of us from past play years ago), travelled down. All the time they never knew they were playing Dust "the wrong way".
Wha--? "What's the 'wrong way' to play a shooting game?"
Well, EVE Dust 514 is "disguised" as a shooting game, but is actually a money-management game. Some players may have figured out how to strafe/jump/exploit/marksmanshoot their way to Leaderboard throne levels, and some may have 'grind'-ed to unlock ever proto gun for stomping. But in a money-management game, the best players are the ones who've mastered sustainable profit,GǪ and continue to grow profit in any kind of weather.
GǪ. Some players dump tons of SP and ISK into going Lvl-5 on so much disconnected stuff, before it hits them that something's still wrong because they can't keep up with other players who "appear" to always be ahead of them. It sounds as if you've finally beginning to sense that money-management (WEALTH managment when you've learned to master it, and then eventually AFFLUENCE-management once you've been at it long enough) is the game skill you're never were aware of. Let me say again, MANY of us spent plenty of ISK/SP/shooting-time in that same "trap".
There are different ways to build your Dust money-managment ability. The ways listed above MAY NOT work for you at all, because part of that "trap" is in assuming what works and makes 300 ISK per match for YOU, is good advice to give someone else. NoGǪ
Are you a great marksman but have little ehp unlocked? Rig a Starter suit with whatever long-range adv gun your comfy with and give fire-support to frontliners in Ambush or Dom matches. Don't fight in the front, because your style of gameplay can't contribute enough teamWP to earn a profit without using a proto gun (which explains why you keep reaching for a proto gun).
Are you like me, rubbish at shooting and killing, but with a good eye for sussing battle situations and making tactical moves that shift a whole match in your team's favor? Then stay away from Skirms and Ambush, and play just Domination. Fit a basic suit with profile dampeners and an adv uplink, and open doors for your team. This non-shooting gameplay style allows you to contribute lots of teamWP even if you get killed alot per match.
Your expertise may be in entirely other areas, but the sole rule is that you DON'T bring a suit-fitting to the match that costs more than what your personal performance can deliver in WPs. That might not mean using the el-cheapo suit, but it usually does mean leaving all that goofy proto jazz at home.
GǪ.At least until after you've a money-manager, with some wealth to brag about. If we were as smart at playing Dust as we are playing our traditional fps games, we would've worked on the money-management skill BEFORE the gun-addiction, not AFTER.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

^ I actually strongly agree with this. I'm not hurting for money in any sort of way. For someone that's never been head of a corp or sat on a district, I'm very well off in dust terms.
I can't hit the back side of a planet and my kdr isn't anything to brag about (not that I care), but I learned what worked for me and how I can still be valuable for the team. I have lots of cheaper suits and even free fittings, but I'm still able to pull out all the stops when my team is giving their all and I won't do anything less. You gotta find what makes you happy in the game and not give into the 'grass is always greener' feeling. I speak with way too many proto bears who can't afford what they run and take a loss way to personally. I also know a lot of proto bears that had a lot of fun while losing their gear and move on to the grind.
Don't let gear and gear loss ruin the game for you. Just have fun in whatever way you can make that happen.

My trick is to run Militia frontline suits that you are given when the game starts out. If you get proficiency in those guns, you have a very deadly suit that costs no isk.
Dont worry about KD, worry about winning. Have a free suitwit h adv uplinks for when your team runs low, then go right back to militia suits.

Now I understand what you guys are saying and all, and i have tried all these techniques especially the MLT fits with uplinks and I am also starting to become-in my opinion-"good at Lag 514". Although the problem is that i am generating a profit with my basic/MLT fits but the rate of profit is incredibly slow. In mast matches now ill get 150,000-200,000 ISK,( i'm hoping thats the right amount of 0's) but it is mind-numbingly slow. I have only started to get 1000+ WP with my minassault fit and galscout(basic fits with basic/adv modules) and it takes about 5-7 matches to get 1,000,000 ISK.
How do I speed up this process .....or am I being an idiot....... |

Rate of profit will continue to be slow. Only going full proto vs another proto team, duking it out till you hoth have no clones, winning, and coming in the top 5 will net you over 750k isk payout. Otherwise get grinding

501st is right. Unfortunately, that is the process. That's not an unusual payout to receive per match. You have to remember that the amount of money lost in a match helps contribute to the winning pool and you're not the only one bringing in free suits to those pubs. Even getting large great match payouts usually comes with a significant amount of loss so your profit margin is still going to be small anyways.
Welcome to the grind...

Don't run proto all the time. You can't sustain using proto all the time if you need it to compete. Run high end Advanced gear. You will be almost as powerful as a proto suit if you run it right.
Also, don't play the game to grind ISK because that's boring.

First off, use your ISK to buy and use whatever you want. There's no point in stockpiling ISK without spending it. Where's the fun in it?
Best way to gain isk is to use BPOs of suits that are good no matter of their tier. That means : all but assaults (assault = regen, regen = isk) Apex Commando or Scout (STD scout bpo also) is a great way of earning ISK while having fun in great suit.

If you are trying to go around using an Apex suit, run a few games using an Amarr Malitia Assault with Scr/Ascr rifle for a few games, I think you might be pleasantly surprised at your ISK growth :)
