Also why do they have less slots than a militia suit but have more cp and pg like a basic suit? Someone please explain.

 Which race are they for?
Some suits have differences because of that.

All militia suits and starting BPO's are variants of basic suits, so they get no bonus. Aside from the weapons, if you are skilled into them and of course your base shield/armor bonus from your up grades.

Since they are the basic variants, they have the basic variants slot layout. Some of these are different then their counterpart suit type.

For instance, the Amarr heavy sentinel has 1 high and 4 low, but the basic has 2 high and 3 low. It doesn't have less slots, it's just arranged differently

Your starting Medic, front line, and sniper suits will be the racial type of your character you created. But with the progression system you can claim different racial BPO"s. There is no "Race Type" to the suits, other then the fact their load-outs and stats reflect their race.

It's a basic type militia suit BPO, think of it that way. There is nothing extra other then the things I stated in the beginning to them.

I heard that the old Skinweave suits were supposed to get the bonuses... so... Not sure in the least.

I think there is still an intellectual struggle (clash?) going on regarding the purpose of Starter Suits, and how to get that purpose effectively conveyed to Newberrys as part of all the other innovative stuff they need to learn in their intro to this game.

But part of that intellectual idea is that:

NO, your Starter Suits don't have any bonuses. They shouldn't. Bonuses are something you should strategically reach for, after you understand how much EWAR plays a role in Dust combat, and understand how you can add those ewar bonuses into your strategy for building a suit.

And, you as a Beginner OUGHT to have a little extra "room" in your Starter Suit (whether it's pg/cpu room or slot-distribution room),GǪ extra room to allow you to experiment with militia modules as much as possible, as part of your learning.
Many of us "veteran" players pushed right through to "gun" and "ehp" modules, with little or no interest or value in cpu-modules and pg-modules, when we were grinding in this game. It was our mistake.

Giving you new players a broader suit capacity during Militia phase, can help you avoid the prejudices we were guilty of...

Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
