I just put in a Crucial BX100 120GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal SSD. Its specs are 120GB 2.5-inch internal SSD GÇó SATA 6.0Gb/s GÇó 535 MB/s Read / 185 MB/s Write.
My question is 1 will this help improve dust and 2 what does it actually help with when playing the game. does it help with frame drops graphic lag and stuff like that or no?

Because i heard they were better then a hdd and i was told it reduces all graphic lag and speeds p deployment times start up times etc. so i bought one anyway.

My question is 1 will this help improve dust and 2 what does it actually help with when playing the game. does it help with frame drops graphic lag and stuff like that or no? SSD helps with loading the graphics, meaning less frame rate issues.. It WILL NOT help with lag as that has nothing to do with connectivity to the internet. It is beneficial to switch to an SSD now because most HDD are worn down and have slower reading speeds which increases frame rate issues. Plus SSDs have dropped in price and is worth getting if you plan on keeping your ps3 for minimum two more years.

its a solid state drive it pretty much allows quicker information transfer its pretty much like a huge flash usb.
it has no moving components hence the solid, a normal hardrive does therefore if something happens e.g you drop your playstation it could damage your hardrive.
a hardrive contains magnetic disks which rotate, a solid state drive does not. the data is changed on the cards by changing the polarity. this does not happen in a ssd allowing quicker data transfer
it should as ssd are lightning flash hence the flash

No reason the SSD can't be put into a different system once there is no more need for it in the PS3.
As for read speeds, you won't hit those quoted on the PS3 because it's not a SATA 3 interface, but you will certainly see speed improvements when it comes to disk access.
The amount of hard drive access going on in DUST at the moment means it should help quite a bit. I only have to sit in a static menu with one flashing chat icon to watch my hard drive light constantly flickering; it must be under 50% load whilst the client is doing barely anything at all.
Mine is a hybrid drive. I don't seem to suffer from frame rate issues as much as others do. "Lag" due to network latency on the other hand is completely unrelated to the hard drive, and usually manifests as rubber-banding / teleporting rather than frame-rate drops. |

when people say the game loads faster. it means things like spawning in. ill spawn into the match usually before anyone else does. ever wonder how the points get hack almost right after you spawned in? they had SSD and were in the match while you were still loading.
draw distances are increased too. you can see alot farther away, which is great for when youre sniping.
SSD does nothing for lag though |

Basically, yes everything will load faster because the data is not stored in pieces on magnetic platters. The problem with regular hard drives is that data becomes fragmented so the system has to search for bits and pieces of the files. (Which is why doing routine file restores on a PS3 is recommended the same way defragmenting your pc is recommended)
The only way to truly fix your problems (as I was actually just discussing with a friend last night) is that you need to also upgrade your ram (easy to do) and also update your graphics card (not so easy because you have to be good with programming to properly write the code for your system to recognize the upgrade). If done wrong you will fry your system PLUS it goes against terms and conditions with the Terms and Agreements from Sony.
I just installed an SSD in my PS3. It does help load data faster, however the lag is a bit more noticeable. At the same time though, it takes less time to recover from the lag spikes.
Also, when PS3 becomes obsolete, just pop that SSD out and use it as an external storage device.

SSD isn't a waste of money by any means. It eliminates fragmentation and lasts much longer because information is not stored magnetically so essentially can't "lose it's magnetic charge" the only way for data to go is for it to become corrupt.
Now what could potentially be a waste of money is if you don't know much about hard drives and once PS3 becomes so legacy that everyone throws them out their windows, you miss out on the chance to upgrade any new system with said hard drive or use it as external storage.
If they plan on keeping their PS3 for years to come it will actually help in the long run because old HDDs performance drops. This will give anyone the ability to load games faster and essentially save more data. (You can typically save more to an SSD than a HDD)
Edit: Oh and it's not just good for PS3 and Laptops. SSDs are just superior (which is why they cost so much more than lesser variants)
