Really that bad?
Wait, hold up, you're probably gonna say smack. Don't. Lemme explain first.
I am like 80% an armor tanker. Mostly ferroscale plates on Gallente assault.
I sometimes use my caldari assault.
When I do use it, it's a different feeling to everything. I didn't play dust "back then" but when I use my calass, I can see why it was the best assault.
Now, when I do use it, i will die sometimes, k do t keep track of what weapons so I can't actually say scramblers are the real reason shields suck. When I use my calass, I stop to think why others think shields are bad? I assume most just don't fit it right because they always say shields suck.
Here is my calass fit. It's really good, very effective and it's currently my fav/use all time fit to make isk.
Assault c/1 Adv assault rail rifle Adv magsec smg M1 grenade 3 adv shield extenders 1 adv shield recharger 1 krins mod 3 adv shield regulators K2 nanohive
Now, with this fit, I get like 508 shields, 1.8s recharge delay, 2.2 depleted delay, no speed penalty
I always attack from range as it should be with caldari suits, something I don't see many does big as they are alway close to me. Now, don't get Come wrong, I do know that shields are t in a good place, but from the multiple times I have used this fit, I can surely tell you, as mostly an armor tanker, that shields aren't as bad as people say they are. Yall just don't fot them right.
Now, before we can actually say the position of shields, we must deeply analyze them. So here
Shields Pros- high first line of defense High recharge No movement penalty Natural resistance to hybrid rails, projectiles and explosives Shield threshold at a distance
Cons- Recharge delays Naturally weak to hybrid plasma and lasers
Armor Pros- More hp Naturally resistant to lasers and hybrid plasma No speed penalty (ferroscale and basic reactive plates) Constant rep
Cons- Low rep Naturally weak to projectiles, explosives, and hybrid rails Speed Penalty (arnor plates and adv and proto reactive plates)
Now side by side comparison/winner
Hp-armor Rep- shields Mobility-tie Resistance- shields (2 weaknesses compared to armors 3) Frontline advantage- armor (shields before arnor is damaged) Idk what else to compare but for now it's a tie
Now, even more deep analysis.
Shield damaging weapons (14) Plasma cannon (1) Assault rifle (4) Scrambler rifles (2) Laser rifle (1) Shotgun (1) Ion pistol (1) Scrambler pistol (3) Flux grenade (1)
Armor damaging weapons (20 Combat rifle (2) Rail rifle (2) Mass driver (3) Sniper rifle (3) Locus grenade (4) Smg (3) Magsec smg (1) Bolt pistol (1) Nova knife (1) Swarm launcher (1) void on infantry Av nade (3) void on infantry
On weapon count, shields are at the advantage as there are more armor damaging weapons than shields
Now weapon profiles Protectile -15/+15 Explosive -20/+20 Hybrid rail -10/+10 Hybrid plasma +10/-10 Laser +20/-20
Again shields have advantage as there are less shield damage profiles.
So with stats shields aren't as bad as you think. You have to know how to fit them.
In my personal opinion, me being an armor tanker and being a very effective shield tanker, the only thing I'd like to see in shields is the following-
Larger shield threshold Lower shield delays
