Mixed. Phone games are cool and all, but us Dustbunnies don't want to be cast aside like... dust bunnies... We want UE4 and modern platforms too

Development cost/and-or cost of port to PS4 of Dust vs potential profit: expensive and potentially unsuccessful. Considerable gamble of time and resources.
Same costs vs rewards of mobile app aimed at raising brand awareness amongst massive casual game audience: Dirt cheap in time and cost, easy win for the brand (unless its truly terrible but frankly mobile players are not the most discerning bunch) and in-app purchases open up huge revenue potential.
I won't be playing it that's for sure, but if it makes CCP a pile of cash it will benefit us all eventually.
Probably.

Because someone amazing sold Hilmar on the idea that VR is the future. Man that's going to be funny when the truth sets in.
They keep burning more resources on VR and them being back to Eve and only Eve it a couple of years.

:/ Being in business, I have to handidly disagree on the port vs new product argument. Dust has an established audience, of which many will follow to PS4 (or more likely PC first, but that's my opinion) in addition to gaining new players on a new platform. The successful methods to monetization are already in place and the game is enjoyable with friends. On the flip side, VR tech is still in its infancy and considerably expensive. Valkyrie could flop for all we know, but that's unlikely considering the praise it has received in demos. The fact is, spending resources on a new frontier is *incredibly* risky from an investment standpoint. But I digress.
I think all that we Dust players want is a small candle in the darkness of uncertainty. We want to know that we're not going to be left out in the rain where our candles will be extinguished with the painful hiss of a dying flame as we support a project that we all love, or else we would have left long ago. We want Dust to succeed and rise to greatness like we all know it can, but uncertainty is driving us mad.

Speaking of uncertainty, how're those stock market shenanigans treating you CCP Shanghai? Bloomberg tells me you're mirroring what the US did right before the Depression hit. Now I'm starting to legitimately worry about Dust's future.

It's not really a prioritization so much as just something else. CCP has multiple products at work, and sometimes new ones, and the decision to go ahead with those or not doesn't actually have to do with what they do with other products.

I'm pretty sure us Eve Online players had the same question for Dust. We once asked ourselves "why is CCP diving into a market where they have no experience in?"

I'm sure probably according to their analysts VR is going be a boom; CCP isn't the only one to invest in it or banking on it becoming a big thing? |

Bethesda seems to think that going mobile is the right way with Fallout Shelter.

VR does not look to be more than a fairly niche market. The average age of gamers is now up to 35 years old. It is safe to assume that a huge portion of that number is people who have kids which mean they can not take the time to put on a helmet and block every one out.
The average attention span has dropped significantly over the past decade or so. This is heavily influenced by mobile devices that do more and growth in the internet. What part of this drop indicates people are going to all of a sudden spend hundreds of dollars to shut them self off from that?
What it boils down to is VR stands to be strong within a niche market of gamers but does not show signs of either sustainable growth over a long period and certainly does not show signs of being able to support an entire company thanks to everyone competing over a certain niche who will certainly demand the highest levels of quality making them tough to truly monetize.
If you don't believe me just take a look at how well 3d televisions were adopted. We saw a great spike from earlier adopters followed by no sustainability because the average consumer had no desire to wear even a pair of glasses. This slow to no adoption lead to film makers being unwilling to spend the extra money to film in 3d which killed off adoption rates even more.
One could argue that CCP is simple attempting to take advantage of the initial boom because of the number of VR projects they are working on at once and if they were right I would have to give huge props to CCP. The only issue there is that by all accounts from the outside there is quite a bit of neglect going on to make these VR projects happen.

P0.rn wasn't that great on my 3D projector (3dtube is far more of a novelty), but I have greater hopes for headset VR...which I will certainly require one with a defogging fan. It will get steamy.

I hope they pursue Dust514 on PS4 with the mobile app features that were flaunted when it was released on PS3.
I hope Gunjack does well. It looks like it would get boring rather quickly and it seems a little too shallow of a game for CCP.
I would have expected a mobile Clash of Clans clone set in the EVE universe, since currently those clowns are raking in 1.3 million dollars a day off micro-transactions. So I'm sort of proud of them for not going for the least common denominator.

I highly doubt gunjack is going to be their No.1 priority, and get updates every three months. But then again, we are talking about CCP...

Yes, let's port a game that isn't even close to being in a finished state
Smh Anyone that wants this game on PS4 or PC simply wants this game to not just die, but to be completely murdered
We don't need a port, we need a re-release of a balanced, finished game that hold its own. There are so many holes right now that there is literally no chance Dust 514, in the state it is in, would stay afloat.
That's like pushing a disabled person into a pool.
We only get one more chance to make this game work. Might as well make sure the game is near perfect before throwing it to the sharks so ot at least has a chance of doing well.

You are wrong in a lot of ways. I currently develop VR and AR applications in an industry (construction/architecture) that has absolutely nothing to do with gaming, and there are many other applications that VR is already beginning to saturate. Education, concerts, specialized training, games, ****, sporting events, and film just to name a few.
