If you put skirm FW only then you'll have much more players on FW during the day (which is hard to find in European times), thus reducing the time looking for a battle.
I think they should also merge Acquisitions and Dominations together just like Ambush and Ambush OMS.
We'll get 3 queues instead of the 5 that we have now. I only see benefits to that !

When I am playing I normally just have skirm selected and takes less than five minutes, usually around three, weekends sometimes less. So I don't fell that the wait time is bad (usually have squad stretch their legs, grab drinks, etc ). Plus nice to have a relaxing fun place to make ISK, as I don't have the desire to play cesspool that is Dom.

Pruning game modes is not a solution to anything. I prefer to play skirmish even in public contracts.

I'd say you'd have to increase FW payout for that to be viable.
Or move skirmish to T2 battle level.
T1:academy,ambush,Dom. (generally less squad oriented,plus academy is actually just a series of Dom matches anyway)
T2:skirmish,acquisition.
T3:FW,PC
-or-
T3:FW
T4:PC
Higher payouts going up tier ranks because you have a better chance of running into coordinated squads.
Then metalocks can be assigned per tier with FW and PC being limitless (So even noobs can join).

Skirm takes longer to get a battle than FW now so why not.
Remove NPC orbitals from FW. -- Fix orbital timers for Eve players assisting in Planetary Conquest.

In pubs, I queue everything. Always get a dom. Haven't seen an acquisition for about a month, and I hear tales of ambush around the camp fire.
Really though, I enjoy all game modes, but less queues would push our playerbase closer together and reduce wait times.
Alternatively, remove choice. You queue pubs, and get whatever the corporation paying you gives you.
I love FW. It sucks that during UK hours it's often not up and running.
I queue solo frequently. You don't need a squad, but it enhances the game IMHO.
