It's beyond unacceptable when people can shout out racial slurs and other offensive speech over chats and I can't mute them or even know who they are to avoid them in the future.
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.

Since the removal of being able to see names it has become impossible to really run a public squad in squad finder. Trolls are free to sit quietly until you go into battle and force you to drop squad, turn off comms, or leave battle to kick them. It is absolutely terrible design and I would rather see those changes undone completely than continue to function like this. There is no real sign that dumping the avatars even helped lag anyway.
Would it be possible to fix things by fixing them instead of just deleting things?

Wait! That's not entirely right. Dust's MIC set up has a few major things to complain about, but it DOES have a few cool features for your comfort. Players just may not be fully aware of them.
One will help you well, Alena:
Once the warbarge lobby or battle map starts, ANY player with a MIC will be identified in the "Team Chat" Channel. Regardless whether she's in a squad or running solo, a tiny chat-bubble icon will appear next to her name on the channel, if she has MIC capability.
When she says her next words, that chat-bubble will turn green (it's hard to see with some lower resolution monitors).
Once you've identified the speaker, use your direction keys to highlight the name, open the dialogue box, and you'll find an option that says "MUTE". Instantly that player (and ONLY that player) is silenced from your speakers for the rest of the match. She doesn't even know your turned her voice off---she can go on with her trash talk---you won't hear anything except the other players out there with MICs. It's wonderful.
I used it tons of times back when MIC was more frequent in the pub matches.
Do it, Alena. You will LOVE the power of shutting Grover's Trashcan off.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
