A couple of days ago I acquired the 'Quafe' Plasma Cannon in a strongbox so I just decided to create a "jumpy" fit with it and hop into a Domination match to see if I can get a feel of why people like jumping around so much.
The one thing I realized after creating my "jumpy" fit and using it was that armor plates do not seem to decrease your jump height. Armor plates will slow down your sprint and movement speed because of the weight of those armor plates but the weight of those armor plates does nothing to decrease your jump height.
Is this an oversight? What logical explanation allows for me to armor tank my assault suit and jump 30 feet into the air?
Wouldn't it make sense to implement a jump height penalty to armor plates?

Yeah. Excellent point. Out of all the crap that is in this game, that enhancement is so OP. Not only can the out jump you now they can jump to your and smack the **** out of you in one hit.

Armor should have penalties to anything movement based, as well as scan profile. There just arent any real drawbacks to it right now.

I thought jump height was based on movement speed?

If it slows down running and movement in general then... YES it would make sense for it to reduce jump height or an increase to the stamina lost with a jump maybe? |

Armor plates should affect mouvement speed, strafe speed, and jump height like why is it that if I put all complex plates on a sentinel I cnt jump a tiny stair heoght obsticale but if I slap myo stimulants on a min assault or cal assault it dosent matter if I put reps or plates I will always be able to hop that high up in the air. Also plates should penalize jump height n jump speed. And maybe scan profile, I mean if u put a complex plate on ur scout, thatshoulf add up to ur DBs cz tge plate should assisst in having the scanner pick up tge persob bearing it. |

I thought jump height was based off of armor?
This is why my jumpy Min Ass can't jump as high as my jumpy Cal Logi which can jump almost as high as my Min Scout.
Gonna have to double check this now. |

No shields get the scan profile penalties armor gets the movement ones. That is how it works eve side and how it should work here too.

I think you are correct about this. It is pretty hard to measure jump height accurately in game but at least without myofibrils I have noticed a huge difference with plates vs without.

Potential explanation: CCP never instated a jump penalty for armor plates because they never thought that myofibs would be tweaked in the way that they have been.
I agree, armor plates should offer some unilateral movement penalty. It should be made with heavy frames as the baseline, because they don't need to jump any less (without mods)

Gargle some testes. I'm primarily armor based, and it isnt enough of a drawback to matter. Plus having the option to fit reactives or ferros for equal as much hp as shield, plus reps. Armor is in a superior place right now. It only makes sense that waddling around in a padded sumo suit or adding plates to what is supposed to be a silent suit would make it easier to spot, even from an Ewar standpoint, crutchmaster flex.

There are tons of draw backs. Armor reps are a mere fraction of the shield reps while armor totals are generally twice the size of shields. Without a logi your looking at a long wait for most armor. Speed is nerfed as is normal jump height I know. Not sure about how jump mods work vs armor though.
As for scan profile, it's a stupid idea. Why would armor make scan profile larger? If anything that should be a shield thing as they take energy to create and maintain, active electronics like that should increase your profile. Though that would kind of make scouts angry.
Then they'd have to choose between speed, stealth, or being completely naked. |

Actually, I think armor plates do decrease jump height. I have an Amarr logi fit with 3 complex myos, and some armor modules, and I couldn't jump on top of certain very large crates. I then changed the fit to use only ferroscales and basic reactives because they have no penalties, and I noticed I could then jump on top of the large crate, and some Gallente medium socket building that I also couldn't jump above before.

If anything I thought nk shield should increase sig profile and armor have a speed penalty

Your jump height is determined by your merc's BMI. If you want to jump higher, slap on some cardiac regulators and get that morning jog in your everyday routine. Why do you think one of the daily mission requirements is running a couple thousand meters? CCP is obviously trying to promote a healthy lifestyle.
You can't handle all this synergy.
