Here. Not the best shot video, but it illustrates the problems of horrendous frame rate drops. This is not some isolated incident, it happens regularly in FW. Now Rattati, will you please acknowledge that this problem exists?

Now I'm not going to say framerate isn't a problem. I'm not going to say you shouldn't be upset that framerate issues are a thing. What I am going to say is this:
Making threads complaining about framerate and asking that the devs acknowledge it, as though they don't already know a problem exists, is completely pointless because any sort of response they can give you will get them huge amounts of backlash. If they say yes, a problem exists, then the questions will be raised 'Why aren't you doing anything about it? What can you do about it? Can you even do anything about it?' People will offer solutions they think will work. People will get pissy when their idea isn't immediately picked up and put into action.
When those questions aren't answered people will get upset. People will be angry at CCP for coming forward with one problem, but not other related, more specific ones. But if they do answer those extra questions, it gets even worse. If they say they don't know how to fix it, they're basically telling us it's a problem they don't have the manpower or resources to resolve. They can't actually fix this huge problem. People will lose what little faith they have left in the game. Numbers will drop. The game's already assumedly short lifespan will plummet. If they say yes, they can fix it, they will be asked why they haven't already done so. The players will feel lied to, or cheated. Feel they can't trust the devs to be honest with them. Feel like maybe the game just isn't worth it anymore. And leave. If they simply say it's something they're working on, players will still point out and complain that it's something they've been working on for X amount of time, and that it likely just won't ever be fixed.
In situations like this, silently accepting a problem is there and trying to work on it quietly in the back is a much better option than publicly stating even something as simple as 'yes, there is a problem.'
I assure you Rattati knows that framerate in this game isn't what it could be. And I assure you devs are doing what they can to improve the experience for us. A dev dropping by and confirming framerate is an issue may make a small number of people happy that the devs actually know about it and want to fix it, but it will have larger negative consequences for the playerbase as a whole.
Talking to your consumers about problems with your product is already tricky. It doesn't help that our group can be a pretty hard to satisfy and very nit-picky lot. |

There has been many times in which Dust has had serious issues in which devs have stepped up to say "We're aware, and we're working on it," and have been met with positive responses by players for it. Acknowledging problems is not new for CCP, and in fact they even list known issues in the bugs threads they make after updates.
The tales you're weaving about the horrible chain reaction of just acknowledging a problem, and saying they're working on it is nothing but a slippery-slope fallacious argument. I can just as easily make stories about the horrible chain reaction of events that will happen if devs don't actually acknowledge the issue exists. It's not like they'd have to answer followup questions after.
Devs have a habit of missing very obvious bugs and issues that become obvious to players once they're out for the masses to play. This is not because they're bad at they're job, but the scale of testing versus actual consumer use is always going to have a large gap, so it is entirely possible that Rattati doesn't know about the frame rate issues. It's possible that when he hears about it on the forums, he might just assume it's not because of anything particularly bad, and that it's part of the general "fix the frame rates!" cries that are always present despite the fact that the latest patch made the problem much worse, and undone the relatively smooth frame rate of 1.1. This wouldn't be the first time that mathematical or video evidence was needed to convince him, he likes proof.

All very true. I guess I'm just really pessimistic when it comes to other people's behavior, and when I read your post I read it the same as the other ever present 'fix the frame rates' complaints that you mentioned. Sorry for unloading my pessimism on you, and hopefully this will be the post that gets something done.

Thank you Kagehoshi, it is important to the community that this is acknowldeged as an issue. Unplayable framerates have been an issue on and off for a long time and getting devs talking to us about it would help ensure our ongoing support for the game.
Now with more evil.

Not trying to be a smartass but..
Have you ever seen any other game manual which states you must reset every 2-3 games....
I'm no expert but couldn't there be some sort of memory dump after every game or something?
