There was a glitch one day where you could claim 5 free BPOs from the new progression feature. So people in the know claimed 5 and sold them to players. CCP noticed the fail on their part and locked trading down on the licit item. Then 2 weeks later CCP sends a nasty email to each player with one of the Ill gotten PBOs and tells them it's an exploit and their BPO has been removed. So player A that claimed and sold the items keeps his money, Player B who bought the BPO off a trader looses the item he bought from player A. GG CCP GG

It was an exploit, It was an eula violation, and yes it should (and was) removed. My heart bleeds for people who paid for these suits or traded actual assets for them, but hey people get scammed all the time. It *might* be possible to get some reimbursement if you file a ticket due to the nature of the exploit, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

What did you expect? Everyone knew that the glitch would be cleared up. Also that email was not antagonizing anyone. People are just mad that they couldn't keep free items. CCP telling people to avoid exploits isn't to make less work for themselves but to, ironically, save people like you from losing ISK on items that will revoked.

How prey tell was it either an exploit or a EULA violation. They collected something via a legitimate (though accidental) in game mechanic and sold the items via another legitimate in game mechanic.
Taking the items away and refunding money for purchase of the items (removing said money from the seller as well) is a totally fair response as it takes people back to where they started. Stating that those people exploited a piece of code or violated the EULA is rediculous though. Since when is following the on screen direction "hit x to claim" exploiting anything.
If anything the dev team should just have said the corporate equivalent of "Oops my mistake. I'm fixing it by reverting things back to the way they were."

It would if they intentionally took advantage of a broken mechanic. Did CCP explicitly say this is broken you do it and you're breaking the EULA? How could they know it was broken without a specific warning. The EULA says nothing about utilizing potentially broken mechanics, which is a good thing since all of us have probably done so unintentionally with all the bugs there have been since the game was released.
Think about the invisibility bug of oh so long ago. The players who accidentally turned invisible, were they in violation of the EULA. What about the time one of the smaller PSN packs for the game was free, was buying that breaking the EULA. There are a ton of other examples I can cite as well but the fact is that clicking a button you weren't expressly told not to click is not a EULA violation.
Now if you were directly told (and it could be proven you saw the message ahead of time) that you should not claim the items then yes it was a EULA violation. Otherwise it was fine.
Now with more evil.

I get why CCP did what they did, even if it turns out to be unfair to some people, and I hold no strong feelings one way or the other. That being said, your position is pretty silly because it's essentially saying it's against the rules to not know the current market values of items, or for jumping on good deals. I've bought things from people who were selling things suspiciously cheap before, for example, I've seen Quafe CA-L SKINs selling for near 40 million, but I bought one few days ago for 20 million -- should I be expecting CCP to confiscate it from me? Did I somehow do something wrong in buying the SKIN?

It is pretty ****** that somebody bought something from someone (perhaps not knowing it was "stolen") only to be down tens of millions of ISK and have no BPO to show for it.
They should at least be reimbursed, all they did was buy something, isn't this game supposed to have an economy? How will that work if people are penalised for buying something? You need money to circulate for an economy to work, you don't just take it all away because of YOUR mistake.
I understand that anyone who claimed the suit should have it taken away as they didn't earn it but for some unknowing person to lose ISK? Come on, that's just plain and simple not caring about your players and making them pay for your mistake. |

I'm pretty sure if every channel including Local has people selling Apex suits for 5 mil, there's reasonable cause for suspicion.
Why is everyone acting like they were caught off guard? Like they're entitled to keep valuable items that they neither worked nor paid for?

This is the one aspect of the DUST community that I genuinely hate. It is the reason that we can't have nice things. It feels like everyone becomes an armchair lawyer the second that something that had the price tag of "Free" gets altered in any way.
In closed beta, everyone was up in arms when BPOs couldn't be sold after the militia BPOs were taken off the market. Everyone was trying to "make an investment", when in actually people were trying to make a quick aurum buck. People are up in arms whenever there is *any* changes to free items because "it devalues their purchase that they made X months or years ago".
In recent history, APEX suits have become the new thing. APEX suits are now fully customizable and have experienced so much power creep that they are now PC ready suits depending on the match. But if CCP ever tries to change or limit the power of the APEX suit, we'll hear "I purchased this suit with the expectation of xyz, and you're taking that away from me - let me start complaining".
I'm in favor of consistency, foresight, and making meaningful choices with regards to items that cost money. But a lot of these claims sound very disingenuous.

6.A.3 (The rule cited in letters to players) has absolutely nothing to do with these players actions. They did not manipulate the system through software or their actions to make the program do something unintended. Even the caveat about "patterns of play" implies a systematic abuse of an intended mechanic. While this was certainly unintended, it is pretty hard to justify clicking through a menu (following the menus directions mind you) as a pattern of play meant to accelerate item acquisition. It was in fact, simply following a set of in game directions towards their intended result. Without being specifically told that the results were in violation of the EULA the expectation for players to not acquire the suits is unreasonable.
I dunno about all this unintended use stuff. Shotgun scouts weren't an intended use. We constantly modify, and create trends and challenge barriers, that CCP would never have thought of in the first place.
