I've played a few FPSs and all the recent ones have some sort of indication if a grenade is near like the live grenade flashing red or your characters voice going "Oh $&!+, A GREANADE!" In DUST 514, I keep getting killed by grenades because I do not know they are there. I am pretty sure I am not the only one either. I do not see a grenade indicator as a necessity especially as in a real battlefield experience a grenade will not flash red at you but it's something I have gotten used to in recent shooters where others might be used to such as well. |

I believe there are a few threads with the same comment already on the forums (at least 2). But anyway, I believe the majority of players here in the beta would agree that the more of a sense of realism the better (though I could be proved wrong). If you didn't hear the grenade being charged or landing near you and you didn't see it either, then that's too bad. adapt or die I suppose. |

Hey, claymores actually have "front toward enemy" on them so it's not a far stretch future grenades could have a red blinking LED on them to show that they're live. In any case, I already commented I didn't feel a grenade indicator was a necessity but might be a preference to others. Just providing feedback. |

That's a great point, i also started a thread about this - asking for a grenade damage indicator - if you could acquire a skill to give you this ability or as a dropsuit module it would be really helpful. |

Nah. I like how it is. You can't tell what direction you get shot from, why should you be able to see a grenade if you don't actually see it? what, are we all spider man? "my spidey sense is tingling!" :P lol
There was a time a few weeks ago when I thought we needed more indicators and stuff, and I still think all these people arguing that it's for the sake of "realism" are just blowing it out their .. well.. anyway, It's more for a sense of difficulty.
That said, I STILL support reload while sprinting, damn the "realism". It's more fun that way, and fun has to take presedence in some way, especially when it doesn't directly involve other people. |

A module that gives you a grenade indicator is a good idea and we should be able to tell what direction we got shot from as I'm fairly sure feeling a bullet impact in your armor is a fairly dead giveaway. |

Like above.
If you lack the ability to realize a grenade is flying at you and get out of the way, you deserve to die. If you don't know it is there because it landed behind you- It landed behind you, why should you know it is there? Grenade indicators are beyond lame and have no place outside of single player storymodes in shooters. |

If we had the ability to cook grenades a detection wouldn't be that big of a deal. At the moment the blast radius is small(7.2 meters being the biggest I remember.) and damage ranging about 200-600. You are unlikely to get a kill with them as it is.
Although I normally manage to get someone with my spawn of three grenades. Normally its people in a bad position, clusters of people, or I will run from a gun fight and drop a nade at a corner and laugh as they carelessly run by. |

seeing grenade icons didn't ruin all the other games that have it, it's not gonna ruin this one. Let's not be elitist for a second. |

First grenade I ever pulled out in DUST blew up in my hand, giving me a one-way trip back to the CRU. |

Didn't know you could cook them will have to try that.
But on to the point of the thread I think a grenade indicator would be a good thing and it goes with the futuristic armour knowing whats going on around it. |

They should not add grenade indicators. however a kind of trail behind a grenade in the air could be a better idea. |

I dislike the indicator. The current system makes you visually recognize the animation/flying black dot which means keeping track of what the enemy is doing around you. An indicator would mean an end to slipping up behind someone and dropping it down their shorts. That would make me a sad panda. |

One would assume that grenades would have countermeasures to prevent detection, if you want to play the lore card.
Wanting people to need to actually pay attention is not playing the elitist card :(
Even if a feature is nice or worked in other games, it doesn't mean it needs to get added to Dust. Dust is gritty. It's hard. It doesn't hold your hand. It's like sitting in a turret. If you don't take the time to look around you are going to get flanked and killed! Situational awareness. If you don't know the grenade is there, you shouldn't know! |

I have only been killed by grenades when I was being careless and not paying attention. I have however been killed while being careful by many bullets, so perhaps we should have a warning for that? |

since when does instructions on an explosive give away its position?
i think that you should only get an indicator if you have the equipment to detect it

It was also discussed in other thread...
I think most of the Vets don't want Dust to get too easy.
But i think it's a good point, that our drop suit are smart enough to tell who's friend or foe, but can't distinguish a grenade from a rock.
I think the HUD should be configurable, the ones that want indicator can switch them on. |

I don't think there should be an indicator "for free". If you pay attention you can see the thrown grenades and usually avoid them too. If someone sneaks up from behind and throws a nade while you are not watching, you should not be able to tell there is a grenade. If that person that sneaked up on you chose to use another weapon, you would be toast too.
What I could somewhat accept would be a module that will show grenades locations, like an update for the suit. You can then tell where the grenades are, but would sacrifice something else in return (hp, dam mod or what else), which makes it slightly more fair.
I personally think it's okay as it is. And throwback grenades? Who in the world with a sane mind would run up to a cooked grenade and throw it back? Just kidding, it's in a lot of games, but it shouldn't be in here. Dust is different, and I like that. |

I can see both point, but i liked one suggestion. an in-air only indicator. after the first bounce it's gone. could be an indicator that shows where it is in-so-long as it's in your field of view. if you're focused on an enemy a little tip that alerts you to something at the edge of your view could help. At least then it wouldn't be all encompassing but still be giving at least a little help. |

The obvious solution is a module. Now, having it opnly detect grenades is a bit weak, but the skills are already there for active scanning modules. |

I somewhat agree with both sides here. However, i've died from grenades that I literally had no idea where it was coming from. The player wasn't in front of me, or even on my mini map. The grenade ended up behind me and boom that's it. Granted that you'll always have times where you might get killed from behind, grenade or no grenade/
Yeah it's "realistic" but we're super soldiers who die and a new clone is sent to replace them, have various modules that boost various strengths, have a hud that tells us enemy location, our health, ammo, etc, have futuristic kits that deploy ammo/health and have nanite injectors that revive our fallen friends. So...all of that is realistic but having some sort of grenade indicator isn't? Plus you'd think they'd have something like this in the future.
Don't get me wrong, this will not break the game for me or make me cry. Most games have grenade indicators, Halo is an exception but I think the sound of the grenades being tossed is louder in Halo. If they just made the sound of the grenade being tossed more prominent then i'd be happy with that. |
