While I was in the merc quarters looking at the Daily Mission window and then looking at the list of rewards I gained, I saw a part of the list where it would normally tell you how many District Kredits I gained for that day. Then it hit me.
Since we don't have anything available on the District Market to spend the DK on, how about spending some of that DK on upgrading the Warbarge subsystems as an alternative to having to spend AUR? It should not be too cheap so as to not make it too easy to upgrade but at the same time it should not be prohibitively expensive like how it is to upgrade the subsystems either with AUR or Components.
This will probably help give a little more incentive to participate in PC especially for the Raiders who don't know what to do with the DK they earn knowing they could then use the DK on the Warbarge.
Considering that the DK wallet cap right now is 7,000, upgrading any level of the subsystem should not be costing anything more than that even at max level unless the wallet cap for DK is increased.
From level 0 to 1: 500 DK From level 1 to 2: 1,000 DK From Level 2 to 3: 2,000 DK From level 3 to 4: 3,000 DK From level 4 to 5: 4,000 DK From level 5 to 6: 5,000 DK From level 6 to 7: 6,000 DK From level 7 to 8: 7,000 DK
The numbers are just a wild guess so don't rip me apart if you think this is not balanced. We could debate on the numbers at least.
I am not entirely sure if claiming should cost DK or if it should just strictly be claimed with WB Components only. We could debate on that as well. Perhaps make claiming cost both WBC and DK but with adjustments to costs of WBC.
Discuss.

You're assuming there ever was meaningful profit from the warbarge in the first place. Most players don't even bother spending AUR upgrading the WB anyways once they do the math. At 3 AURUM per WBC, you are looking at spending over $20 just to upgrade a few subsystems for minimal returns on a mechanic that is meant to be seen as a secondary source of ISK, SP, and items to your primary source which is actively playing the game.

Amongst the whales, I've definitely seen numerous people doing it anyway.
Hell, I did it to some extent.

Perhaps you are right about that. But keep in mind that DK has a cap of 7,000. So it's not like everyone has been hoarding boatloads of DK just for this.
For PC raiders such as my corp, I would to lose 35 PC battles to max out the wallet. 14 if I won those battles. Of course, this is not accounting for the DK you get for whenever someone sells off a clone, but that is assuming your corp even has a district in the first place. But a PC raiding corp usually does not have a district.
@Arkena Wyrnspire
I can probably imagine someone dropping about $20 or $50 into the warbarge, but beyond that even you should see by now how prohibitively expensive it becomes to upgrade your warbarge subsystems past level 4 let alone to level 8.
At the moment, $20 can get me 43,000 AUR. If it cost me 3 AUR per warbarge component from the NPC market, I will only be able to purchase 14,333 warbarge components.
If I spent $50 to get 110,000 AUR, I will be able to get 36,666 warbarge components.
If I felt like being a compulsive buyer, I would spend $100 to get 225,000 AUR to spend on 75,000 warbarge components.
To upgrade my level-4 Mobile Factory to level 5, I would have to spend 51,739 warbarge components. That is 155,217 AUR or $69 just to upgrade that one level.
