a game cries out for one thing above all and that is fluid play!
remove delays that serve no purpose, allow the player to react
if you press R2, just switch the weapon and switch it fast!
if you press reload dont make that a verdict! anything, anything you couldnt do simultaneously must interrupt the previous action EG allow the players opportunity for reaction!
right now, if you reload you cant knife oncoming enemies. if you hit L2 you are left wondering will i see that nade anytime soon? jumping plots a course through the air that is so rigid youd be better off navigating in a tank. for the love of ccp this must cease! |

AND LET ME CROUCH/UNCROUCH AT SUPER SPEED BEFORE THE ENEMY DISSOLVES HE NEEDS A GOOD TEABAG!
No srsly, no delay between shooting and reloading or crouching and uncrouching is necessary. I'm losing faith that all of these things are gonna be possible for these Dev's to fix. I beta test a lot of games and comparing this to say....COD4 beta. There were some quirks but there were not the TONS of little things and LOTS of big things like LAG and FREEZES and SLOOOOOWnesss of menu browsing. I am just so stoked about this game I ALMOST wish I wasn't selected for the beta because it scares me to think maybe the Dev's just cant fix it. Maybe it is just PS3's network? PS3's controller? The PS3? I don't know but I hope that it can become the great game I wish it to become. I have a lot riding on this to be my game of choice honestly. |

Wait, so you want to be able to change trajectory in mid air?
And this is possible in real life how?
As for the rest, fine. Interrupting your last action to do a new one is fine, just don't make it instantaneous. |

Big difference between CoD4 beta and this beta. THis is an actual beta and has a lot of development time ahead of it. CoD4 beta was an opportunity to try the game before release meant to boost hype, not develop. Also, CoD4 was built on the last million CoD games made, so things like this were ironed out in the first few games.
So apples and oranges. |

its called air strafing, its been around since the days of quake. mobility like this attracts competitive players whose style involve personal reaction time rather than rigid statistical advantages over others
air strafing is not possible in real life at all, trust me ive tried it
but were not talking about real life |

I am one the mind that what is not even remotely possible due to the laws of physics (like changing direction in mid air) shouldn't be allowed in the game.
It was likely in those other games because it is actually HARDER to code the game to not allow you to do it than it is to let you. |

I think they're going for a more "realistic" style of gameplay than Quake or whatever. Air strafing, bunny hopping, dolphin diving, and all those other silly tricks from previous shooters don't seem like they'd be congruent with the kind of game they're aiming for.
That said, interrupting reloads and stuff to knife or change weapons or whatever sounds fine. The delays between stuff like switching weapons are not arbitrary though. Being able to get the jump on someone using a sniper rifle or whatever and having an advantage because they need to switch to their SMG is not a worse gameplay feature than that person being able to instantly swap to their SMG and fight as if they were already holding their SMG from the outset.
As well, I think the grenade throwing delay was not just a random thing they added in for no reason. Being able to throw grenades like in Team Fortress Classic, where you just spam the button and grenades fly out, would lead to different gameplay -- and not necessarily better gameplay.
Overall I think the speed and delays are fairly calculated. They want a game where actions themselves are tactical choices and where strange FPS gameplay gimmicks don't necessarily exist. That's not necessarily better or worse than making Quake for the PS3, but it's not what they're aiming for. You can't make both a "realistic" shooter and an homage to Quake at the same time. Whether that'll be to their detriment, well, I don't know much about that, but MW/CoD/BF3 seem like pretty popular shooter titles and they're of the "realistic" vein. |

Ok, wish granted. You realize you can already do that right? Ever think about, I dunno.. trying to just hit the button and see what happens before coming and complaining that what it does isn't in the game? |

The R2 is very unresponsive: I often press R2 and nothing happens at all. |

Tap R2 to quick switch to next weapon, HOLD R2 to bring up the selection hud (handy for logistics suits with lots of equipment) |

I'd like for a little less delay for grenades. Having thrown one or two IRL, they are not a fast weapon to employ but surely a superhuman augmented clone can strip a safety pin out a little faster than THAT
Being able to go prone would be nice. I'll go so far as to say that you need to be in crouch before you go prone. Tap the triangly button to crouch and the hold to go prone. Tap again to stand out of both. Being able to low crawl in prone would be kinda spiffy too. I think adding the ability to slide like in the Future Vision trailer (and come to think of it Farcry2 as an example) would be good addition. Melee attack interrupts and restarts a reload? OK. All for it.
Weapon switching works OK for me except when I get over excited and accidentally select a nanohive instead of my sidearm.
Slowness of menu browsing is likely related to the dinky ass server we are currently on.
Do you seriously think this game is coming out next week? Try months from now.
As stated before. Real Beta. |
