I tried it for a couple minutes when I first got into the game. The novelty quickly wore off, and as an interface to get to all of the functions I need to perform to manage my character, its cumbersome and slow. The neocom interface is far more expediant and functional.
So my question is, is the quarters a promise of more to come, ala the Incarna debaucle, or do we really think people will navigate in circles around their couch to do things they could do much more quickly in neocom?
My vote is to loose the quarters or make it a static page behind the neocom. Does anyone out there actually enjoy playing "here we go round the mulberry bush" with their couch? |

I walk around to kill time. Helps to prevent matches that consistently pit same people against each other. But usually, I'll just go for a smoke break. |

From the E3 video I watched, it looked like the SUIT the player was wearing reflected that of the picture you selected when you made the character and/or your favorite suit.
My favorite thing to do is walk backwards in circles by holding the left stick to the bottom left and the right stick to the top right spot. |

Nobody walks around in their personal quarters in Dust just like nobody does in EVE. It's a pointless gimmick in both games. I would rather have an easily navigable and quick loading UI than an area to wander around. |

it's pointless now, but once dust becomes fully availiable, eve and dust players will be able to walk in the same station and im guessing it will be much like local chat in EVE....just kinda re read what i said, doesn't make much sense but its the only thing i got xD |

It may become more useful if the character was faster so that it doesn't take so long between menu controls. |

When they get the market and info menus up to speed it'll be more fun just wandering around your quarters. This type of pointless but artsy interfaces seemd to make playstation home some money. And can anyone tell me why the info screen in my quarters says im in violation of some concord? |

I do this too. Especially when waiting for the battlefinder because the current matches are full and not enough people to start a new one. |

Like in EVE, once those doors go somewhere, it'll be more useful. For now it's just a slow-down on doing stuff. :)
I'd much rather run around an empty planet though, and polish my vehicle skills while stuff is offline. |

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the implant in your head that allows you to upload your consciousness to another body at the point of death, giving you pseudo-immortality.
As for the room itself, it will get more use when it's finally hooked onto other areas. If you don't like to use it to access functions, just hit start or L1 and use the Neocom. Simple. |

I see the quarters having their use. As said in a prior post, the quarters could be used as a chatroom but I see it more of a possible way of squading up before joining a match. In any case, I hope the big screen actually provides useful info at some point rather than the same semi-random screens. I just wonder when you join a clan/corp if you can default your personal quarters to your clan/corp ship. That way you can equip, chat, squad up, and hit the battlefield all from one place. |

I'm saying that I would rather the money invested in the quarters was focused on a non-laggy menu and more intuitively designed menu screen. I'm sure it will be fixed by the end of beta, but it's still my main annoyance outside hit detection. |

lololol, I noticed this my first weekend in the beta, my friends and I call it the "old Chinese lady walk" lol.
Also, I almost ALWAYS walk around in my quarters, most of the time I walk circles around my couch while talking to my friends in Teamspeak...
However, I would imagine if you don't have friends, or teamspeak, you'd be pretty bored. lol. |

You can search for my first post. i made the same observation.
Captain quarter is nice but i seriously doubt it will ever be usefull. Still it eats a LOT of ressources from the console while navigating menus. |

I read this post and then started using all the interfaces without pressing L1. Neocom doesnt save me that much time it turns out.
Also does anyone else get an omnious feeling when they hear the "tired of sharing a room? Need more space?" add. |

LOL Ominous... DUST 514 has to make money somehow as it is free-to-play. I imagine personal quarters options such as larger personal spaces and clan/corp spaces will be one of those ways. |

i think they should leave it like it is but I think they should connect it to a corp headquarters where you can play mini games and the like while waiting for battles. slay anyone :D
but to answer your question no I never walk around in it haha but I also never use this feature in eve either so. creature of habit, but I suspect that leaving this in for never players will help them out alot. being able to interact with something that is physical (sorta speak) then something in menu gives a much better impression and it helps move along the learning curve for the non-fps part of the game. |

The MQ seems a legacy of a development or tech lead that will not give it up. The main problem with the MQ 3D environment is that it is a resource hog that gets in the way of playing the game. Using the neocom will not help since the MQ 3D environment is always loaded first.
In my opinion, the best aspect of this game is the ability to make fits and skills to your personal play style. The current MQ 3D environment negatively impacts this ability.
Often during fitting, the game will lock up and lag jump as you try to select a module location. This may last for several seconds to longer per module. The per module part is important since this will occur as you try to select any module and will not ease up over time. It seems there is not enough memory available to run the fitting screen and the PS3 has to load and reload information from the hard drive.
Another area that memory seems lacking is in the information section about a module or weapon. The desctription section or fitting sections seem to load well but the section with other versions of modules may take up to 10 seconds or more to load depending on number of variants.
While this may be a minor inconvenience to some, consider the loading and strain during consecutive battles. After a battle you cannot go to he battlefinder directly, as the MQ loads first. Then, sometimes after selecting a battle you then must load a waiting screen. Again, this is negatively impacts the game through constant loading delays. The constant memory loads and wipes cannot be good for game stability either.
In my experience, there seems to be memory issues with the PS3 and any extraneous hard drive use. Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were one of the most famous issues with PS3 data handling, however I seem to remember severe and game freezing playing the original Borderlands when accessing the new weapon vending machines after playing a while.
