If we ever get a wild hair up our asses to link DUST and EVE economies, I think we should give serious thought to scaling down costs/payouts.
During closed beta DUST players scorched off 6-12 trillion ISK worth of stuff.
As robust as the EVE economy is, I don't think that rate of eradication will be sustainable. Nevermind a proto dropsuit can cost upwards of the value of a frigate hull.
This is just idle musing, but if we were to realistically run EVE and DUST together (long way off) I'm thinking the values of infantry gear should be about 1/100th what it reads now. Doing this might be more feasible by hacking the ISK cost to 1/10th and selling in lots of 10. That way the EVE universe costs scale better.
It also would mean an EVE pilot cold AFFORD to fund a merc corp for a period of time, and an EVE Alliance could potentially fund dozens.
Do I think this is likely ant tine soon?
Not a chance in hell.
Does it make for an interesting thought exercise?
Absolutely.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I definetely vote for a new skill tree concerning trade too. As it is getting more and more relevant now, skills allowing a reduction is market escrow, or improvement in public and LP victory and loss pay off, etc, could be of some use in combination with the warbarge to compensate this as well. As per EVE, the warbarge improvement should be skill related too.

i dont think it'd be a problem. all items in eve are player made for the most part. that means that market value is determined by players.
of course its not going to happen though. the logistics of securing gear... lol. not every station has people selling gear in them, and you can only use gear in your current location.
we would need to be ablt to travel between stations, or be able to order gear and have it shipped to us, by player or maybe NPC. either way there would need to be a way to get gear from the seller to the buyer. this has always been what worried me most |

I'm sorry! Lol
I'm sure we could find a way to make it work though. Moving all dust players into one station for each empire or even just relocate all dust players to jita could work.
Jita is the largest trade hub in eve. If it can't be found in jita, it doesn't exist lol. At least this way there would be a central location for eve players to sell dust gear, without the hassel of shipping gear between stations. |

I think Eve dudes being able to make Dust gear would take away the need for PVE in Dust.
All the dudes sniping could be tending to some PI or mining. Win/win |

A fair point. *Cracks knuckles*
The way the economies could be linked is have it to where Dust mercs can, and will start out buying isk from the NPC market when they join the game if they have low SP and isk.
PVE in Dust could be going mining in different areas and establishing rigs on worlds that Eve Players control to harvest far more resources. Using these resources, Dust players gain battle salvage similar to now, which they then use to upgrade their Warbarges with the numerous components.
Also, Dust Mercs could potentially attack other competing stations by launching a "Raid" on there as well if your Eve Player wants to be the only one selling specilaized gear and all.
By dumping more skills into manufacturing, Eve Pilots could produce Proto Weapons and onwards with stronger and stronger abilities, for scaling costs if they see fit. If a Merc Corporation was looking for isk and start up capital, they could be sponsored by such. In the case of Thor's Idea, you also have Dust mercs possibly station themselves on certain worlds, and if a Raid or attack is launched, you could indeed have a few snipers or rangers to guard XD

PvE for DUST: clearing Rogue drone infestations that attack settlements and strip resources and machinery to replicate themselves.
Why? To give EVE P.I. and system control ratings a boost in output.
If an industrialist can hire a team of mercs to clear drobes around his PI outpost for a small fee (and fund their eternal hunger for more/better gear) and reap a greater overall reward then you get a symbiotic relationship.

Also, clearing a site and "groundbreaking" areas so outposts can expand more cheaply overall.
And simply because CONCORD pays bounties for the destruction of threats to New Eden's population and infrastructure.
I like that idea quite a bit.
I'd like to force an even greater level of interaction though by making warbarges take moon mining materials to increase effiency and give planetside drones a chance to drop tech 3 ship components (when encountered in null sec). Both mercs and capsuleers would benefit from these trade items.
Now with more evil.

Unfortunately I don't feel that forcing EVE players to interact with DUST is desirable nor do I think it will ever be allowed.
Forcing people who pay a subscription to interact with a free to play game with little benefit to them is going to just stew up more bad blood.
I would like to have reasons to get the EVE devs willing to help. Force feeding DUST to EVE players doesn't strike me as a valid method.

From what I've gathered reading this so far is eve would be largely unchanged. However, working with dust players would give many unseen before benefits, new industry, and a new source of loot.
This is the right train of thought.
Not how do we make eve players play with us..
How do we make it attractive for eve players to play with us.
