So, the great majority of us only use militia lavs for transport and roadkill.
I personally have a standard fit with hardener, plate and rep that I use with squads (which I never run).
Now, lavs in general are in a terrible spot. Without any hp added, they are ohk with any av weapon with armor ones having better survivability.
Whist can we do to make people use the standard ones?
I have the following fit-
Std armor lav ( methena I think)
Adv turret
Adv 60plate
Adv light rep
Adv hardener
Scanner
Now, with this fit, I can take 2-3 av hits and survive making it an actual light assault vehicle, meaning I have good hp and rep to stand av while having a good gunner take out targets. Now, no one really has these fits. No one wants to spend hard earned isk on this and people decide to use the isk from my fit to by multiple militia "disposable" lavs.
So, my question is how can we simply make them better???
My idea is to increase rep/recharge.
Hav are more like heavies, tanking hp. Lavs are like scouts. Quick. But they are missing something.
How about increasing their reps/recharge???
Now people will stack more hp and use their rep slot for more hp while having a "decent" base rep.
That will resolve paper lavs (now more tank) and have better rep like scouts.
Also, how about goving gunner seat a 500hp shield around user before any damage is done to actual person??? That would be nice and useful.
With 2 lavs (with my fit+ railgun) you an follow and destroy havs, taking turns and flanking enemy fire until hav is destroyed. It will be fun and easy.

Everytime I see an LAV in Skirmish I get all excited because I know what my Lai Dai is about to do to it.
Seriously though you do make some good suggestions but the only one I don't like is giving the gunner an additional 500 shield. The idea of people having to face a armor stacked heavy who was granted an additional 500 shield because they jumped into the gunner seat of an LAV is disturbing.

I guess but like come on, a PC and hmg can quickly take out any gunner, even the most tanked Amarr heavy. Even nova knives can. And the gunner only has firepower as an advantage. No mobility and cover.
AND SERIOUSLY THIS IS THE FUTURE. HOW DOES A 2015 HUMVEE GUNNER HAVE MORE PROTECTION THAN SOMEONE FROM THE FUTURE IN A FUTURISTIC ASSAULT VEHICLE?????

Another forgotten limitation....
They're the only Crew Served ground vehicles.
HAV drivers get to shoot the gun mounted on their vehicle. I need to get a gunner.
Something does need to be done, though I agree with Summa that it shouldn't be a 500hp shield for the gunner.
If anything, I'd be more for giving over control of the turret to the driver.
I won't dodge another silver bullet
