I proposed this idea some time ago but almost no one noticed it. I usually make tank/dropsuit fits that incorporate similar modules and sometimes a turret/weapon. I propose a asset separation option when making new fittings.
How it would work is you have a bulk amount of armor plates and 3 dropsuit fits. You want to keep certain amount of plates on a specific fit to either test it or keep it small since it's expensive. So 1 fit would hold 25 armor plates, the other 75 and the last 100. They are the same modules but they are in essence separate from the main bulk.
What do you think CCP? Yay or nay?

Not a terrible idea.
Would probably have to 'lock' assets into a specific fitting, and remove them from your overall asset pool... or something like that.
Either way I agree that it's annoying to have different suits become invalid because the one you are using has lost modules

+1 another idea i also suggested months ago. its very messy trying to make fits when suits all share from 1 module pool, using one suit depletes modules from another fitting. by reserving like this its easy to buy and bulk and have all 100 of each fitting and when you use one, only that build goes to 99. and not every single fitting dropping to 99, 49, 33, etc depending on many of a certain module you have a on a certain build. definitely should be in the game.
at least if you have borderline ocd and want to always have a rounded number of everything.

haha yeah, i quit last year but i got the itch for scifi lately and i logged back in to see what was going on here and was like oh yeah i remember that. putt 4 plates on one suit and 1 plate on another suit and you need to have 500 plates to keep both at 100. seems simpler to just lock 400 to the suit with 4 plates per life, and 100 to the suit with one plate per life. and then they both stay perpetually at 100 until you use it.

It is painful to micro manage all those modules and it gets worse after a PC or good FW match.

Now that I have at least 15+ unique tank fits that viciously overlap with other fits via tank, turret, module; it is getting very difficult what to restock and what to avoid. Proto tanks cost 2.5 mil and I don't go splashing that ISK around for fun...or maybe I do... Whatever, its a pain in the ass.

??? You know you're going to use the gear, stock up on it! If you're just messing around with fits, buy enough for 3 runs. After 3 consecutive runs in a match with the same layout / fit, you should have a pretty good idea of whether you like the change or not. |

Lol, thank you. I understand that they're not the same cost, I also understand that if you're not sure if you'll like the 'new' module / fit, you don't stock up prematurely. When you've decided on what you like, you buy up and keep it in stock.
Just seems like a poor place to focus dev resources for a minimal benefit. Not even sure it would be a benefit. Locking in assets to each particular fit pretty much guarantees that you end up over buying. In your original example of 25 / 75 / 100 you have 25 of each fit (assuming we're talking about 1 / 3 / 4 slots filled with 'x' module). Just restock to 100 every time and your numbers will match up. Otherwise, you're buying 200 of 'x' module to lock them in, which defeats the point of up front cost savings. The only real difference is that one method makes you do simple arithmetic, the other requires development team to code in more layers for a non-issue.
Really not trying to bash on OCD, I think we all have it to some degree manifested in different ways, this just doesn't seem like a good thing to put limited resources towards, and would frustrate quite a few others when they have the modules but can't use them because they're locked away somewhere else...
Edit: spell check and grammar |

Edit: spell check and grammar After a PC or a very successful FW match, you will 90% of the time get flooded with modules and equipment that you frequently use. Pair that with multiple deaths and lack of memory of how frequently you changed fits to accommodate the situation, this small input will absolutely help and prevent irrational over spending with the newer players
