I have contacted ccp on the scamming issue for it has happened to me and many others I know.they will not do anything to resolve this in any way.it is wrong to steal.if u do this in real life u goto jail or have to pay back what u took or both.im starting this post as a petition.everyone should post their comments on this issue until ccp makes it a policy for scammers to be dealt with for their actions.or set up a merchant for the trading like some other games have.if the two ppl don't add items to trade items cant be traded.we need to stand together on this to make it stop.we have earned our items through hard work and we deserve better.thats the bottom line.so lets show ccp that we mean business and we deserve fairness and the right to be treated in that way.thnx for everyones time who has read this and is helping me put an end to this thievery. |

If you do your research you can find a trusted third party who will take both the ISK and the Item, and then pass them on to the Seller and Buyer when both sides of the transaction are accounted for. As long as the broker is honest you won't be scammed.
The trick is finding someone to act as the broker who values their reputation enough not to mess it up by stealing stuff.

I can support this! I personally haven't been scammed because I trade with people I know only. All you guys trade chats are filled with bums?!
Why don't they just use that market discount chic in the quarters? I give her items, she puts them on the market, and waits for isk/trade. No haggling, or guys scamming. I don't care about "new eden" being the scummiest place in existance?! I care abut good commerce like any man should.

Well the current trade system was supposed to be a "first step" and it is the most simple version of trade to setup. I would like to see more of a trade interface myself. Maybe Rattati will get back to this one of these days.

CCP Frame, Welcome, welcome!
This forum section is dedicated to all things Player Trading, introduced to DUST 514 in Warlords 1.1 update.
Remember, Player Trading is trust-based, so you will have to find your own venue of trusting and having a successful trade.
Good luck, and have fun mercs!
Edit: Taking this in mind CCP won't do anything.

CCP should make it so that a person's alternate character can only trade with their main character; this would make it easier to keep tabs on scammers since only a person's main character can trade with other people. I would also like it if we had a place on the forums where we could report a scammer and leave a little anecdote about our experience with said scammer. Incorporate a search feature into the report on scammers and all a player would have to do is search a person's name and all anecdotes concerning trading related to that player would be available. |

remember always this is not real life this a game players can do what they deem fit nobody is to tell them what is wrong. morals pfft their are no morals in dust. there only two types of players the stupid ones and the clever ones only the stupid get scammed.(some clever players do make stupid choices)
clever one: trades to well known friends in the game asks people for well known and approved trading channels. or has a trusted third party or even asks for goods to be sent in a ratio of 50. and ask around anybody now the person you are going to trade with. the biggest clue is the corp they are in if they are in a well known corp theirs less chance of being scammed if they are not then ill let you figure that one out
dumb ass: trades to anybody in local chat.
stop filing tickets about scamming, let ccp deal with real problems, it is not their job to cater for idiots(no offense)

I would just like the interface to be a little more useful. I would love to have a log of items sent or received just like you get for cash. I think it's insane that most of the time the only way you can tell if you got an item is if you pay close attention to how many you had before it was sent and after. Some times you get a notification but not always.
Imo the current market set up really only helps the scammers in every way possible. About the only thing done to limit scamming is the fact a new character can't send items at rank zero, but they can still send ISK so that's a failure too. They can still get items and money and send any ill gotten gains to their real account. On the other hand new players can expect to wait 2-3 months before their rank is high enough to trade items, or have to spend a decent chunk of money on buying Aurum to get that initial 2-3k loyalty rank points you need to hit level 2.
It's not hard to combat scammers, it just hurts you if you are looking for unusual items. If you want a specific skin or suit, even a booster finding it amongst only your friends may be hard. Trusting a 3rd party trader can always be risky and even if you trust them, does your potential trade partner also trust them? What if you both demand on separate 3rd party traders lol?
All else fails be the bad guy and demand to always get your stuff first. You might loose some trades that way but at least you won't be scammed and if you trade with people regularly your own Rep will ensure people trust you enough to do so. Right now though it seems to be a sellers market since the standard send the isk first format protects people selling items a lot more than those trying to buy them. |

I don't care about "new eden" being the scummiest place in existance?! I care abut good commerce like any man should. I like the idea of using Jara Kumora as a personal arbiter for trades- this would provide more value to players that purchased her and could be a revenue source for CCP as well... For less social types that don't want to seek out trusted third parties or don't trust anyone to provide the service, this could be a way to mitigate the risk in trading with potentially less savory characters... Perhaps Jara could provide insurance against a scam and at least recompense you some % of your loss if you do get duped...
I take at face value that this is New Eden and scamming comes with the package for gullible mercs... If there is any question in your mind as to whether you will get what you bargained for, don't enter the deal...
Be just and if you can't be just be arbitrary.

like ccp said they wont intervein.we spend money on a game to make their paychecks to pay their bills and they wont do nothing.a fair trade system can be made and applied they just don't care.they don't care about anything but their money.we have glitches lagging hacking going on and no action so why would they care about this either.if I made a game I would listen to the ones who support it and play it.the consumer has a voice and the voice should be listened to.thats the bottom line.if we don't agree with something we should have a say since we are in a way share holders that invested money into their game.im not trying to start anything, I just want what is fair and just.anyone who knows me knows im a good player with good intentions.im not only looking out for me but everyone I hang with in the game.we deserve better.ccp send me some stuff worth arum and not let me pay for it and lets see how u feel in the end.let us be able to scam u and see if u will do something about it then. |

Scamming is a part of everyday in eve so why cant it be in Dust?
People sit there for Hours in Jita/Amarr/Hek/Dodixe spamming the local chats just for scams. You just need to not be stupid and fall for a contract which says 'Charon For sale' and its infact a piece of carbon for 1.2 bil (LOL)
You probs dont know what im on about but you cant stop scamming its just something that happens but there are ways around it.
A Third Party - Either a friend or a respected Trader
Dont buy something you cant afford - spending 20 mil isk on a skin is ok if you have loads of isk, but if its all you have then its not worth it. just think this skin isnt going to camoflage you in anyway because there is a big red arrow above your head XD
Only Sell - this is what i do, save your isk for proto stomping and have fun :)
Disclaimer - I don't condone Scamming but it is what it is (a part of both games)

@Terry Doc
1. I do agree that we need a more secure market system in place. But everyone here appears to be forgetting already and rather quickly that CCP Rattati did NOT have time to implement a full blown market system as that would have taken far too long to setup all at once. So he chose the methodical way of doing things and that is implementing the market system bit by bit. First we get "send items", later on we might get a trade window and then later on (if we're lucky) have Eve Online market system implemented. But again, that takes time so just be patient. Besides, CCP has much bigger problems to deal with first and those take priority over the market.

Key word being TRUST. That means that CCP is leaving it up to you to find a trusted player to trade with. That usually means sticking with your corp mates or relying on a broker who is highly dependent on keeping his/her reputation. I'm a broker as well but I have to look after my reputation very closely because I'm not only a well-known public lecture host in the Dust community, I'm also a known instructor for Dust University which is a very reputable training corp like Immortal Guides. If I scam even once, not only will my reputation be ruined for the rest of my life but also that of Dust University. Too much is on the line for me to scam.
3. Dust 514 operates just like Eve Online where it is perfectly legal, according to CCP, to scam a player, rob a corp, do corporate espionage, ransom anyone, etc. The only things you are NOT allowed to do is impersonate another player or dev, manipulate any data flowing between your PS3/PC and that of CCP's servers, not use any bots, and not involved in any real-money trading.
4. Just so you know, even if CCP were to implement the entire Eve Online market system TOMORROW (hypothetical scenario here), which is the kind of secure system you would ask for, there will still be scammers and thieves. Just only the smart ones who really have to go out of their way to actively scam. The ones you see here in Dust right now are just the lazy ones who go after low-hanging fruits. So there is no scam-proof system you can think of in a game where the developers clearly allow this.
5. You must now assume that any game developed by CCP that operates under the New Eden culture will definitely allow scamming and stealing. In the immortal words of a capsuleer... "Welcome to New Eden".
PS: In case you're thinking about it , if you plan on making a big stink about the game allowing scams and theft to the public, expect your plan to backfire. People have tried that before with Eve Online and all it did was actually help Eve Online grow because Eve thrives in having its shenanigans being talked about in the public. Forbes.com, Kotaku, and TenTonHammer even often talk about it every so often and that helps Eve quite a lot. The same could happen to Dust if you tell everyone "HEY LOOK, THERE IS THIS FPS GAME THAT ALLOWS SCAMMING AND STEALING AMONG PLAYERS".
