Why are so many heavies using Assault HMG for killing infantry?

Good range, and the DPS is still not that bad compared to the regular HMG.

range nerf on the basic HMG variant was too much, it requires too much positioning now to do anything with it, it's quite literally a stand on top of the objective class now.
The AHMG basically puts us back to where we were before CCP went bat-****-crazy with HMG's. |

better range can be used as AV if needed can pack more of a punch at range if you can lend your shots right
its slightly worse as AI then the regular HMG but the range makes it so that you can kill outside the regular HMG range which limits you to CQC
the range is what I see most people using it for
it has about the same damage output a little less actually and its worse if you miss your shots as it ruins your potential DPS but the range of it makes it overall better to use as you can engage at longer ranges
if a vehicle happens to get close by you can actually damage it rather then just scratching it
its more versatile but you cant just spay n pray like you can with the regular hmg

You must be terrible dying from that range, even if we do get 1005 *We don't* of that damage, you have a weapon actually designed for that combat.

Because i solo heavy and when i try to run the normal hmg i can never break enemy sheilds even though its only 181. The burst is my favorite hmg and the assault is my go to pub gun.
scanner? whats that? you can see enemies on the radar? just use your eyes and save a equipment slot for something useful

Hard PC heavy and the burst has heat issues but that used to balance it. With the accuracy increasing as rounds exit, the burst is terribad because as you get accurate, you overheat. I used to rock the Six Kin in every suit I had.
The boundless lets you spray like crazy, but if you want any accuracy you may hit your team mates and the wall more than the target 15 meters out.
The AHMG is the only HMG I really use now, because I get headshots with my HMGs. Always have!
With the AHMG I can give a scout a hair cut, fight back against a SCR (OP still), shoot at a bolt pistol sniping me (Magic Bullet), and actually fight other heavies, I just have to watch my bullets like I used to watch my heat.
Heavies are slow and die faster now, so skilled heavies need to really be careful about where they position themselves and fight. Any heavy who thinks he doesn't need cover should be killed relatively quick.

AHMG Pros:
+Can be used to obliterate LAVs and terribly fit/piloted HAVs
+DPS is negligibly lower then the regular HMG (could be a con depending on your personal views)
+Better range than the regular HMG
+Hits like a truck
AHMG Cons:
-Seizing can sneak up on you if you don't pay attention to your heat build up
-Low ammo count
-Higher fitting requirements
Take that and decide for yourself whether or not the AHMG is worth using over the regular variant. I personally use it strictly for it's dual AI/AV capabilities, but others may not find it as great as I do. |

I wrote 'want' in reference to how players want more range on a HMG (overall).
