I have been a Bard since Alpha, but that is not the only class I play. It is nowhere near my competitive build either, being a Keeper of the Moon. I have played all classes at some point, besides the new ones. When I get Heavensward(In a couple of months when I can buy it and keep up my sub) I shall become a Dark Knight.
I am quite fond of the Monk, despite it's tenacity to be a let down and a pain in the butt. My competitive build is a Warrior though, funny though he is a Hyur Midlander, just like True, only because I like the look of the combo.
But as True pointed out, you will mostly see me as a Bard.

I want to point out despite being able to adequately tank most things the Dark Knight is by no means the best choice. Paladin and Warrior over it as it stands are the better choices for upper tier gameplay. That being said Dark Art Delirium Combos and all Slaying Accessories are fun to play as off tank.

That makes me sad. I was under the impression that the Dark Knight would be loads better, damn me and my bias towards that class. Also, may I ask it's rotation? I am far too lazy to check it out right now.

Well you have great physical damage mitigation. Grit offers -20% incoming which can be coupled with Shadowskin and Shadow Wall, 15% and 20% respectively, but only for short durations though you can Dark Arts trigger the latter for greater mitigation so its effective hit points over short durations can be equivalent to 150% of base HP. Dark Mind Cuts 15% Magic Damage or something but I've not truly found a use for it outside of Trials I know require magic spam.
However its MP is essentially both is TP and essential for the Dark Arts rotations. You almost constantly need to be runnings 'Masochism' as I call it and convert damage taken into MP or 2x DA rotations are likely to put you out of Darkside stances over long fights.
Essentially the most unique mechanics of the Dark Knight are insanely TP intensive, cannot be used regularly, and risk shaving off 100 DPS per second until you can re-initiate Darkside during which time a few of your abilities won't even work.
In the end if you were expecting a particularly unique Tank/DPS hybrid you lose out. Apparently they cannot hit Warrior and Paladin DPS values @50+, they don't uniquely focus of tanking by debuffing though you do have some interesting debuff options, and kind of awkwardly overlap with the Monks Dragon kick leaving the Monk still more desirable.

I was actually thinking they would be more so the powerhouse in contrast to Paladins. Coupling their Greatsword with Dark Arts rotation, alongside being a tank. But it saddens me that they are beneath Warriors, especially Paladins.
Oh well, I guess I shall just keep my Bard into Heavensward, because Machinist looks like crap.

In some respects they can be I've noticed significantly higher numbers on my Dark Knight using Slaying accessories over my Warrior with my highest critical hits cracking 696. Combining that with Scourge, a DoT for 500 potency, Dark Arts Delirium, you can mount impressive DPS but at the cost of HP, and not as high or durable as other tank types.
We have no artefact armour yet. Esoterics are coming out next week or something so the armour you see in the trialers might become available...but **** is the Dark Knight questline cooler than any of the others. You'll be sure to love it especially the Lvl 50 quest.

oh that was a revolution for RPG gaming.. i drooled to play that for years.. my dad was a fan of apple tho
it's still darker and somewhat better than the next gen versions.. it was hardcore- one bad critical hit on your main char could send you back hours to your last save.. i finally got to play it when i was about 25 i remember being really stoked when i found the crashed UFO because i was big into that kinda stuff back then. that was a random encounter it threw me on my second day playing and i was not expecting it.
the ability to kill children was freaking gnarly and the game became very hard after you got that pinned on you. i liked how fallout 1 you started with literal sticks and stones. it took a while to find fire arms. i still remember my first fight with a group of children we were throwing rocks at each other and those poor kids got mauled by my dog. one of my NPCs decided he didnt like the child abuse and ditched me after that fight. |

Though I have been tempted to take up Dragoon again since it seems Ishgard is the main domain of Heavensward. That in itself has got me pumped for this. I never understood the Dragoon/Bard hate.

As I understand it...... you guys are OP as ****. As for Dragoons.... I imagine because they look badass and don't do the sustained DPS of say a Monk, Ninja, etc. Aren't Dragoons something more akin to Massive Alpha that translates into DPS..... aka Gallente styles.
Honestly the Dragoon was my first choice. Spears/polearms in any game are always my initial go to. But Aisha went Dragoon and I opted for a Tank class over Monk for accessibility to dungeons. Best choice I ever made.

Hey, nobody can say I am a flavor chaser, as I have been Bard since it's inception
Never go Monk, they are pain in the asses to use, Paladins/Warriors are far superior. I only do Monk for the lulz and then I rage and switch back to my Bard. Mostly anybody will pick one Warrior/Paladin in any raid. Then it goes Bard, and both Mages.
