So a while back the idea for hacking enemy equipment and making it yours came up.
That was, however, before Bandwidth came into the mix.
So, as awesome as the concept is and as much as I want it to become a thing - I can't help but wonder how the bandwidth situation would be handled. Obviously if we're going around hacking equipment than anything we laid down previously, unless we were a Logi, would get vaporized, so that'd be problematic if we wanted to retain the tactical viability of our last placement while also gaining the new one.
I started thinking maybe it should operate off of the enemy's bandwidth - it was their equipment after all - and that'd even encourage them to replace it once they know it's been hacked. If they know that it's been hacked, that is.
Maybe even give WP for hacking it? Something small?
Dunno. Thoughts?

I've proposed this myself way back in the day.
I think some of the mechanics you mentioned are getting a little over complicated.
I think it would be better to just keep it simple.
-+5WP equipment hack - Bandwidth transferred to you - 50% of remaining nanites/spawns are depleted when you hack. So a hive could not be hacked back and forth.

Hacking equipment isn't really needed. It won't add too much into the game, but it itself is a bit too 'mishmashy' concept.
Also, having more equipment remaining on field than before must not help the client performance.

or just make it take an equipment slot and specialized tool so you can do it from a distance. only suits with bandwidth would be able to hack then.

I did think it would be cool if we could flip an installation from a distance using warpoints. Make it an orbital strike; scll it a Hack Strike or something.

idk, equipment hacking would go a long way in dealing with uplink spammers, turning uplinks to your side would be a HUGE thing for PC games.
And likewise, stealing enemy nano could be quite interesting. turning an enemy camp point to a friendly one.
Take it a step further, shame there's no hacking gun we can use on vehicles to force pilots out :) |

I really don't see the appeal of equipment hacking. Why waste time taking over a temporary piece of equipment?
Installation deployment needs to be a thing though. Instad of an orbital strike you can call in a CRU or Dupply Depot to designated sockets on the map.
I would rather rehack someone's strategically deployed CRU than an uplink which will be used up in the next 30 seconds.
Oh, and equipment destruction wp should be increased to 10, but that's another discussion
