Caldari soldiers are supposed to be the 'long-range' play style. Wouldn't their radar be designed for such tactics?
Caldari dropsuits have traditionally been somewhat underpowered. A buff like this would help and be completely logical.

A slight buff to the scan range on cal suits would be welcome; at least give them "best in class" scan range similar to the very slight advantage the Cal Logi has over other Logis.
Also, I very much agree with you that the "long range" race should have some additional highlights in this department. I've come to the opinion that the Cal Logi should actually be the logi suit with the active scanner bonus. Scanners would fit far better for play style of the Cal race.

Im not quite sure what advantage the cal logi has over the others as it has identical profile and scan range and precision stats. I do like the idea of them getting some sort of across the board racial nonhp perk. The minmatar get hacking and none of the other races really get anything.

I love ECM (the Caldari active EWAR skill in EVE). I've been trying to think of how something similar could be done in DUST. It would give a nice factional symmetry with the Gallente bonus to active scans.
(For those that don't play EVE, ECM is a calculated action like scanning in DUST and if it's successful it causes a ship to lose its target locks and prevents it from acquiring new targets for a period of time.) |

I love ECM as well, and secretly the hidden promise of such is what keep me playing.
When the caldari scout was first discussed, one of the older devs considered giving it a precision raiser, it would be rather interesting if it could also raise the numbers on scanners.
Barring that, something that turns the enemies tacnet off would be equally amusing. Otherwise the best ideas rely on creative new equipment ideas or active modules on dropsuits.
edit:
I also like the suggestion of the OP as well, an ehp and scanning range increase for a speed decrease would be very lore centric and functional since cals were are the shield sponges in eve.

Hmm....I thought the Cal Logi was had a slightly better range and Gal Logi had slightly better precision. I'll check ProtoFits and post again.

An ECM would be perfect fro Caldari, especially for ones that like to troll. Get in range, their tacnet scrambled or disrupted, murder them from afar. Caldari need a buff of all things seeing that CCP thing stomping one race actually makes the game better. Caldari already get **** bonuses anyways. CalAss get reload buff seeing that our weapons have the largest kick in the game. CalLogi gets nanohive bonus which is underused. CalScout gets Scan Radius boost which is really useless and dominated by activate scanners. To the only one that makes sense is the CalMando.,

EVE lore say that the Caldari are technically and economically inferior to all the other races, and they do not respect the honoring of military service nor industry.
they have a small ineffective military, because the officer selection process is based on 3 traits 1. personal political connections and bong usage. 2. howling at the moon and tribal machismo. 3. getting your balls cut off and praying to the gooey squid god.
the Caldari are slow weak and fat, because they do not PT-because they drink, smoke and take drugs while watching **** all day long. they live broken undisciplined lives and suffer from broken homes.
caldari industry specifically is run by ******** half-wits that create military systems that amazingly defy logic, reason, function, performance needed by the warfighter to survive the battle space. these systems in fact break the laws of physics!
i hope you now understand CCP/EVE lore!

If you give Cal longer scan range then you have to buff the other suits somewhere too. Gal could have extra dampening, Amr could have scan precision or something, Min could have... I don't know, stamina or something. I'm not a lore expert, just examples. It would be nice to see even more variation between the racial suits' base stats that reflect their differences, kind of like they used to be before the whole dropsuit overhaul. This is probably something CCP thought about, but obviously balancing them is a lot of work and there's already so much that needs doing.
I would like a Gallente SMG.

We could have an active scanner repurposed as an ECM, base - 50 meter web, 15 sec, kills Chevron and stops sight from turning red when on an enemy but tacnet works fine. Proto gains ability to kill Chevron for 25sec, tacnet for 5 secs. But only 30 meter range.

What does everyone else think
EVE lore states that "electromagnetic" waves are the basis of scanning.
this implies metal mass "IS" the signature that scans pick up
in RL a S.Q.U.I.D is used.
So SCI-FI+RL+physics+eve lore DEMAND a YES the CAL should have greater scanning or greater stealth!
Let's us talk about metal composition and Gravity..shall we?

As long as you can't stack them like active scans and the calculation is a little harsher than active scans, I like that. A passive bubble is too passive to be an ECM analogue. |

the old scouts proved how op it can be to have long range passive scans. its just as bad as active scans some players whine about, except no warning that you have been detected.
For the caldari lore play style you need 60 to 70 m passive scan radius, to catch the enemy before he gets in rail rifle optimal.
that's not logical it's just op.
at least when you use an active scanner, everybody knows they've been detected and has the chance to watch their 6.

Grenades or remote explosives have fewer variables to work with, I was aiming for more of a rock, paper, scissors thing. Grenades are also kind of close range weapons which I don't think the devs would be keen to give to the Caldari. |

EVE disagrees with lore..lol
scanning is "electromagnetic", as a metal object passes through a magnetic field it's distortion of that magnetic field is registered.
look up what a s.q.u.i.d is.
if you want to go on with EVE-then i'll say GRAVITY and gallente.
if you say CCP and that it's been thought out by the great minds at CCP, i'll say "rail guns have limited recoil, and miniguns do not overheat" and then i'll mutter DUST.

Thank you!
I know, and everyone else knows, that shields are a liability.
I as others at CNDST have lobbied at every opportunity, not for shield buffs, but for speed and increased stealth.
We have always used, electromagnetic and gravity, fields of science and physical law to base our reasoning on.
