What if the redline turrets were given boosted HP at the cost of slightly reduced damage? The facilities we fight over have these turrets for a reason, and perimeter defense (the redline) is paramount. The inner limits installations are last line of defense type deals, and would make sense they should be more powerful to hold off intruders who manage to make it that far. The perimeter, however, should be difficult to breach because of the lasting and suppressive force of the installations situated there, giving the main forces time to prepare while whoever is manning the turret keeps heads down and buys the team some time.
What this would mean for gameplay is that the redline turrets would be harder to destroy, but wouldn't pack quite as much killing power in return, and would therefor be easier to hold onto for suppression fire to give your fellow blues a chance to escape the redline and place up-links and hack an objective or two, which would of course draw the redliners away because suddenly they have to actually work again. This would, hopefully, make redlining easier to counter by giving redline turrets more survivability to keep oncoming reds back and behind cover.

If you make it off that far into someone's redline to be worried about turrets, you're gonna die automatically anyway.

You realize people run into redlines to gank people at their spawn point all the time, right? And run back out with time to spare? That this isn't a new occurrence?
Admittedly this isn't a problem on every single map, but it's a problem on enough of them that I felt like this is something that should be brought up. |

No one at all? Not even good idea or bad idea? I was hoping this would get at least some discussion. |

The problem is simple, and it has nothing to do with turrets. You seem to be part of a very small group of people that even when they are loosing, they try to keep fighting. Most people dont, they just give up and leave or decide to play as a "sniper" (they are not snipers, but they cant do anything else). Even if there were turrets that were placed in a tactical place, or if there were more turrets or they dealt more damage, it would change nothing because what you want is a chance for the team to organice and fight back, while they would probably fight among themselves to take control of these turrets and never letting them go, "trying" to "fight back" from the red line, leaving to other teammates the real fight, wich in the end would not happen.
Solution? People to start figthing, to play with a squad. |

I completely agree that the biggest problem that allows redlines to occur at all is that most people give up the fight and sit back and let it happen. But a redline can happen to anyone, whether you're good at the game or not, whether you give up or not. If the enemy is closing in to your redline and starts destroying your installations, that's the biggest sign that your team has little hope of recovering. When you lose your installation, that's potentially your biggest asset in taking the fight back, keeping enemies down while your teammates rush out and take them down, and it's gone. And when your redline supply depot is destroyed, that's basically the end of the match, no matter how far away the match is from actually ending. The supply depot going down is basically the signal that you're just ******, and there is literally no reason for the enemy team to do it except to force the team down and make sure they have no chance of ever getting back up.
I know it's hard to get people to fight back when there's an actual challenge in the way or if they're afraid of getting beaten down. I honestly don't know how to address that, myself. What my suggestion here is for, though, is simply to, hopefully, make it easier to counter a redline. Make it easier to actually make that comeback and take the match, or at least get your teammates out of the redline so they aren't constantly being spawn camped. |
