Anyone who plays this game will agree that guns hurt. They kill quite quick which makes sense. Lots of things help you kill faster. Damage mods and warbarge and proficiency all increase damage.
The first two damage bonuses are pretty unique and add a lot of damage for some investments. So does proficiency. I think ttk is too low personally and I think a interesting way to make fights a little longer would be to change how proficiency works.
Right now each point adds a 3% bonus to the weapons respective damage profile for a total of 15% increase damaged towards one hp value. While this seems useful ( and it is) , I think it increases the gap between new players and vets too much.I have a coupe of ideas that me and a buddy talked about.
First idea. Blanket bonus. Each point in Prof adds a blanket bonus of all skills in that weapons skill tree. Say 2%.
This just makes guns handle even better for vets. It makes you a true specialist with said weapon. This idea is not without flaws as there are weapons such as nova knives and plasma cannons that have either no other skills or odd bonuses. This solution exchanges that extra damage for other skills that are useful as well.
Second Idea. Weapon specific bonuses. Each point adds a percent value to emphasize the unique qualities of weapons. This is a bit more complicated as Prof would be completely different for each weapon. You could make Prof change a plasma cannons travel time. You could make the delay between knife swipes smaller. You could decrease feedback on overheat weapons. You could make sniper sway decrease faster. Make lazors gain range. You get the point. Its not to make weapons do more damage, just to make them handle better.
Weapon specific bonuses decided by players to make Prof emphasize the qualities of a gun that set it apart from others. I think this would be so much cooler , so much more dust if Prof worked this way.
I have no idea on how easy or difficult this would be to implement. I assume difficult. What are your thought on this ? Is Prof fine the way it is ?
While slow to anger and occasionally indecisive, they are also capable of harnessing enormous resolve when truly tested.

Please enlighten me because I have no clue.
Back in chromosome, Proficiency gave 15% damage bonus', no profile bonus, just straight up 15% more damage to that specific weapon, which some weapon's need, SMG, Magsec, AR, the chromosome damage bonus was perfect to me, however, the weaponry skill gave 2% damage per level for a whopping 10% additional to ALL weapon's (a pseudo proficiency to all weapon's), added with 15% prototype damage mod's, you could see how OP weapon's could become, which resulted in a nerf.
I like your first idea jakkal, but would it also effect the weapon operation? If so, I'm all for it. 2nd Idea lead's to too much complication, and complication vs simplification, simplification generally win's out.
